HID conversion

Has anyone tried the HID kit that Tbyrnemotorsports sells that has a stage1 and stage 2 system. They look factory and are extremely bright, but also extremely expensive. So i was just seeing if anyone has these on there cars.

Not that I have anything against a true HID conversion, but I just got some Xenon bulbs for my car... similar look for about $80 total cost.

Talking Look for my thread below...

I don't know if you saw my post below, but I saw a set (4) ballasts on Ebay for $245. You would still need bulbs and housings, but you would have 4 ballasts a lot cheaper than what Tbyrne wants for a pair and bulbs.

I used to just have bulbs. I now have the real deal in my low beams. I'll go out and snap a pic of my brights on so you can see the difference. I can see a ton better now; so much better that I am going to drop the money on my brights now.

The store I work for is doing a group purchase for another list for $310 for any of the HID kits (single beam) in 5200k, 7000k, 7500k, and 8000k. I put the 8000's in mine. I'll post a link later.

Bottom line: Well worth every penny you spend on the conversion.

In my opinion, retrofitting HID bulbs in the stock housings is not solving anything. It's the housings that are junk! Sure, you'll get more light, but where is it going? If you really want to benefit from HID's then upgrade the housings too. I started a thread on some new headlights I mounted on my car (with halogen lights tho... but just check the illumination!) The Hella 90mm units have been fitted with HID bulbs by many people and the illumination is GREAT!

So where is this group purchase at? I would definitely be interested in an HID kit for $310, and pics would be great.

The GP was going on over at some Alero board. He sold 10 sets. And NO WAY will you get these kits for 300 on Ebay; if you think so, post a link. The kits that my boss is getting are the ones bringing between 375 and 450.

Those are 8000K in my dims and the "blue" lights in my brights...... And yes, the brights look blue if you turn off my HID's.

Not worth the money if you not getting an appropriate housing for a reflector. Also, there is not "true" HID bulb that goes over 6000K. Phillips and Osram Sylvania are the only two to use. One’s max is 5200K and the other is 5800, listed at 6000K. The other 7500 and 8000 is Japan knock off junk. Bottom line.

HID info.

Actually, a properly selected burner (the technical name for an HID bulb) will work in a stock housing. There is D2R and D2S. If I remember correctly, you want the D2R for a projector style housing and you want the D2S if you are putting them in your stock 9005 or 9006 housings; they locate the actual globe in the same location as the filament was in your bulb originally giving you the same pattern. Yes, an aftermarket housing is better but they work more than well enough in the stock housings. I would be more than happy to shine my lights at night against any conversion on an Fbody if it is running an incandescent bulb any day of the week. Properly aimed headlights work fine. You don't have to get the projector housings.

As for the number ratings, you do realize the BMW's are running 7000k burners, right?? Yep, that cheap BMW junk...... Lexus is now running 8000k..... once again, some cheap junk. Anyway, the only burner that is "junk" would be the ones that are coated with blue to make the Kelvin rating higher on the light color (ie: 12,000 k ones)

Trust me, I can see fine at night.....

AS for the 5800 and 6000 being max numbers before they turn to junk, here is a link to Phillips burners. Currently they go to 7000k. 8000 is just coming out which is why it is the most expensive. My burners are not coated; they are crystal clear.

Read this: Temp ratings Besides, the higher you go in K rating they actually produce less lumens, so it not to your advantage to use beyond 6000K.

With the free form housing, even if they do measure it to go with the original placement of the filament based halogen bulb, there is no point. The reflection angles were designed for a filament bulb. Not to mention our factory lights suck because of the reflector, not lack of wattage. So why use that same poor quality reflector to scatter HID light. It is not a question of which is better is lumen output, obviously HID is. But if you can't put it on the road without blinding people then why bother. If you are content with dropping $$$ on half a kit, by all means. It will never compare to that of an OEM equipped set-up unless you retro-fit such on the car. That being reflector, ballast, cut-offs, in most cases autoleveling, etc.

Again, look at this site here

Yep, they make them. If you are running H4 bulbs, just get an H4 hid kit.
