I'm not much up on the Autooptiks... I know you guys stay on top of it. LOL! But, anyway, what are the other options besides the Autooptiks?

Know anything about these?

The sealed beam conversion are just shells without lights in them. As you can see some people do not like them. I bought them and always, ALWAYS get compliments. The blank shells allow you to use the HID kits. If you don't like them, try the other link I put in an earlier post. I have NO idea why others dont like them. They served my purpose.

Hey Brent94Z,
That link to ebay are the same as Autooptiks. Seems like this guy is trying to make some money. I only paid ~55 bucks for mine. I use the 8300K with mine. Any higher than that and you might get stoped by the police

I thought the 8300K, 12000K, etc... has to do with the color of the light not brightness?

Best color temp is between 4300k and 6000k. Avoid ANY HID BULB THAT IS COATED to achive 8000k - 12000k

Autooptiks / that ebay link:

1. Overpriced

2. Bad design / parts

3. Improper seal will burn out the bulbs in rain (dangerous)

4. Housings often need modification to fit, so that they won't shatter.

Not sure if I should be bragging about this, but I spent more money than all of you on my setup:-) I am running an HID projector setup from an Audi A3. This includes the Hella e-code projectors, Hella ballasts, and Philips D2S bulbs. Output is unbelievable and doesnt have the blinding output that the kits like the ones you guys bought do. Halogen housings are NOT designed for HID light. Install took lots of time and patience. Wasnt easy.
Here are some pics of the output on the wall very VERY distince cutoff line. Cant get this kinda output from your normal halogen housing

Totally agree with pu12en12g and the above... You guys that think the Autooptiks are great, you probably haven't experienced a projector setup yet. I have had Autooptiks on my car and then swapped them out for a Hella 90mm setup (still halogen, but not for long...) The difference is night and day.... Plus, you don't blind everybody else either... There's no shortcut to good lighting, all the elements need to be of good quality. A good housing should be the first thing you should upgrade.

JMHO,
Sam

I've been on the quest for HIDs in my car for at least a year now.

I think I'm chicken about having to cut part of the frame off.

JTS95TA, I may just have to buy you tickets to Cali and do it for me.

You dont have to cut part of the frame off. I just had to modify the black piece that the lights mount in. Thats just fiberglass and I made it so that the stock housings can be put back in easily if need be. Dremels are amazing tools :-) Hardest part of the project was making the projectors 100% weather proof since they were not going to be mounted in a sealed headlamp housing as they normally are.

I guess in that case I was also chicken... I cut only as much as needed for the Hella 90mm install and made sure that I did not touch the mounting points of the stock lights. I can mount the stock stuff back (if I wanted to ) My instructions (link in sig) show what I cut off and you will see that I can go back to stock. Like JTS said, the hard part with the AUdi or BMW projectors is that they are not waterproof. The Hella 90mm avoids that as it comes in a waterproof housing.

Just some more info to base your choice on...
