Who has taken off the heat shield underneath their hood? And is there anything bad that could happen if I take it off? Thanks

 

I don't know this for certain but I have heard it really isn't a heat shield. It is there in case of an engine fire. The plastic tabs melt on this thing and it falls off the hood and onto the engine... smothering the fire. I don't know if that is the true intent of it but it sounds good

I don't have on on my 94Z or my 96SS. Neither car has shown any paint damage.

Actually, it's there for noise reduction.

Neither of my 2001 vehicles had one installed at the factory, so I assume they are not using them any more. Which leads me to believe that it won't hurt anything to take it off.

But, I may be wrong.

has one wiht achevy symbol on it, i like the look... but... mine came with it... guess only certain years have it???
