Has anyone started on a c5 rear bumper for Camaros?

I was just wondering if anyone has started to come up with one? I thought Whistler was gonna try this but maybe I got confussed and he was just going to do the light panel. What about any of the rest of you? Anyone actually started yet?

I have been thinking of buying a used rear bumper, then casting a mold of it and using that mold to begin one. But if anyone here has been working on one, then I was just gonna wait and buy one from them because it will more than likely end up being cheaper than what it would take for me to make just one.

Nope. I'm not talking about the rear LIGHT panel (as I mentioned earlier ) with the C5 taillights. I know, the molds and everything are almost done for that. I'm talking about the flat rear bumper like 'vettes have. I know some people have sent in pitures and things into well-known bodykit makers and some have thought about doing it themselves, but does anyone know if one has been started on?

The status right now is we need a Callaway C8 owner to allow us to make a mold of their rear bumper.

If you know anyone with a Callaway C8, ask them if they are interested.

chesee, you talking about that tail light panel? I think that's a different thread. Whistler isn't doing an entire tail panel...just the lights.

As far as I know...there has always been talk about a C5 bumper, but no one has made one...only concept ideas, photoshopped pictures, etc.

The C8 idea would work, but honestly no one knows anyone who has that kit on there car. I honestly don't know how Callaway does it...the engine is incredible, but I would never buy one of those kits.

I have been also pondering the idea of trying to make this bumper for many months now. And I'd actually seriously consider moving on it, but this is one of those topics where I have found very little to no information on and no one really knows the process to go through to make one (and those who do are too busy to explain).

It's obviously difficult, but I'd give it a try if I knew how. Does anyone have anymore information on this process of "molding" and how it could be used and then produced for others?

Mark

If you're looking for info on how to make a mold of something, go to www.the12volt.com and visit thier messageboard. They can tell you exactly how to do it there. It does take an experienced person in fiberglassing though to do it right. After you have a mold of the stock piece, then you can just make your copy and start to modify that one once it's done. Then make another mold of your finished piece and start to mass produce them. It doesn't sound very hard, but it takes skills to make sure no bubbles form, the thing doesn't crack with varing temperature, ect...

More than likley, it will cost more than $500 to make just one due to having to make a mold of the stock piece then a copy then another mold. But that can be easily recovered when you start to sell them.

I'm already calling first on the list if anyone starts to make one. I definatly want one but I'm unsure if I could even do it right. I have only fiberglassed a few times and right now, I don't have the money to even start on this project until I get my custom box for the hatch of my dad's pt done. So, if in a couple months, noone has started, I guess I'll start on one.

ive seen one on this forum, im not sure if it was chopped, or real, but there's pics out there. i think it looked great, better than a vette. only thing is the entire hatch needs to be removed and re-welded onto the camaro. this also means that the roll bar where the t-bar ends needs to be shortened. a lot of work, too expensive for me.

Sev...that's if you were going to go and chop the rear end or something. Something like the Callaway rear piece isn't anything like that. It's jus a replacement for the rear bumper cover with an attached piece that goes OVER the valance area. TRUST me.

gotcha...sorry about the confusion.

anywho, my mod wish-list is postponed yet again...i had to pay 500 bucks for a speeding ticket, and my rear is jacked up, and my tranny is slipping. why me...why me!?!?!? well, ill be an idiot if i replace them with factory parts, may as well upgrade while its being replaced right.

Thanks for that links...I'm definitely going to check it out.

I think this is all just a matter of time and money before someone buckles down and tries making this.

I've been interested in learning more about all types of body panels like this...so I'm glad that I got to learn a little more in this thread. Thanks and one day hopefully I'll give this a try. Just something I've always been interested in trying...and I'd be willing to put time into.

You know, i was always thinking about purchasing the Callaway C8 rear bumper. Only thing is...after checking out their website, i learned that ou cannot buy the pieces of their aero kit seperartly...you have to buy the entire kit...which costs about 5g'z. which i think is a rip off and a half..its the biggest bs but then again thats probably what people would only buy (rear bumper) because the rest of the kit is disgusting. I think i'll purchase the kit and sell the front and side skirts on ebay (hopefully someone will buy that crap). If and if i do get it, i can have a friend whose good with molding fiber glass make some molds and sell them. Like i said...not 100% sure yet but have been thinking about it...so there is some hope
