Question Has anyone had a problem with C5 wheels?

I recently purchased a set of 2000 conv. C5 wheels (18x9.5 rear, 17x8.5 front) Got the same Bridgestone tires that come stock on the C5 (275 40 18, 245 45 17). Also ordered the SLP level one suspension package at the same time. (Lowered the car like 2" in the rear and about 1/2" in the front, but thats another story). My problem is, even with 5/16" spacers my rear wheels rub like hell when I corner hard and fast. They are ok when I drive normal, but if I get on it at all around a 90 degree corner they rub. They are only rubbing on the lower front area of the wheelwell, you can see where they have worn it down. I am just wondering what other people have done to prevent/stop this from happening? Someone recommended banging out my wheelwell but I would like to avoid that if at all possible?

that's what i did... I'm running 275's in the back and was having a little rubbing on the passenger side. All i did was look where the tires had already been wearing the wheel well and banged it in with a hammer. You can't see where i was hitting it with the wheel on and the vette wheels look great

I run 285s in the back which rub the wheelwell when driving in a straight line let alone during a hard corner. I just banged on the area with a hammer and problem was fixed. However, the tires still rub if I go into a corner rather hard so I need to hit those areas a little more.

Personally, I would never use spacers.

Your OEM wheels do not have the correct offset for an F-body, so ultimately you are going to need spacers or bang the wheel well in order to eliminate the rubbing. Some aftermarket wheels are offered with the correct offset to avoid this issue

a poly bushed and adj panhard rod will help ALOT, this solved most of my issues, and then if it's still a problem you break out the hammer.......it took both methods to make room for my 17x11s

Thumbs up

I run the 18x9.5 C5 rims in the front and rear of my car with 275's and I never have any rubbing. I had an adjustable panhard rod before hand so maybe that had something to do with it?

I got 275's rear, slight hammering, some undercoating and no rubbing.
