Has the 98-02 Camaro body style grown on anyone over the years?

"It looks like a catfish."

"It looks like a Chrysler Concorde."

"The headlights look like peanuts."

These are just some of the more common choice phrases I've seen get thrown around in discussions about the looks of the 98-02 Camaro over the years. And usually, whenever the topic of doing a 98+ Camaro front end conversion comes up, there always seems to be an overwhelming majority who chimes in to proclaim that the 93-97 body style looks so much better and tries to convince them not to do it.

Here's the thing though: for as popular as the looks of the 93-97 body style seems to be, why is it that you don't see more LS1 owners trading their front ends for one? The facts seem to speak otherwise. Do a quick search with the keywords "front end conversion," and you will see that the vast majority of the threads started by Camaro owners are ones asking what is necessary to convert their LT1 front end to the newer LS1 version. Something's not adding up here...

Call me crazy, but I wonder if it's possible that somewhere along the line, people may have started to appreciate the 98-02 Camaro body style but just remained silent about it for fear of ridicule from the "93-97 Majority?"

So what do you all say? Have any of you who were previously turned off by the looks of the LS1 Camaro changed your mind about it? Speak now or forever hold your peace...

Costs money to convert. I think maybe some people want others to think they are packing a LS1 when they really have an LT1.

First vote!

I've always preferred the LS1 look.

I say the LT1 body style is the best. The only way I really like the LS1 front end is with an SS hood and the SLP grill insert. With the flat hood, it just doesn't do anything for me.

The only thing it means is that people want to look like they have the newest thing. Even if it means uglying up their LT1 car with the catfish front end. They just want everyone to think, wow, this guy is bling-tastic... he's got a 2002, not a 1993.

I personally don't care for the looks of the LT1 year Camaros. Those ugly square headslights etc just looks like something that was designed in the 80's. IMO it just looked pieced together instead of flowing.

Now the Firebirds I still like from those years.

As for that LS1 above, why would you want a catfish with blackeyes?

Will an LS1 fit under an LT1 hood?

Yes. The airbox/filter will not, though. You'd need to swap it for a regular LT1 CAI.

This is my first LS1.. I used to hate them.. but since having one, its started to grow on me. The SS package helps alittle bit, I'm sure.

I actually dream of getting an Ls1 SS and putting the Lt1 front clip and hood on it.

I was planning on it. Actually, a couple months before I bought it I made a post asking if anyone wanted to swap. The style just started to grow on me, I guess.

To me the grill area is reminescent of the 70-73 Camaro. Anyone else see this? I guess it helps that I had a 70 SS before my 00 SS. I just wish the LS1 Camaros had the round tail lights too.

Just buy an LT1 and stroke the motor! That will look better and be faster than the LS1!
