Harwood Hoods

I'm gonna put a new hood on soon on my 94Z, considering the Harwood Ram Air from Jeg's. Anybody got a pic of their car with this hood on?

Re: Harwood Hoods

If I might add this; the hood fits "okay". It dips a little at the apex of the fenders and rises a little at both ends. A "little" means 1/8 inch or less. The underside of the Harwood is an ugly thing around the seams. It needs to be filled and finished underneath all around the edge where the top and bottom sections laminate. There is glue and rough edges around the entire perimeter. Even the rolled over edge where you put your hand to open the hood is a sharp, grinder cut. Once again, it will take some time to finish the underside around the edges. Other than that, the underside is the same smooth and glossy finish as the top.

Speaking of which; from the top, the hood is beautiful. You are looking at the Harwood before it was painted.... There were about a half dozen or so dimples and other marks that had to be filled and worked. Prep on the top of the hood was minimal.

Hope this helps.

Re: Harwood Hoods

if you are talking about quality, i have a harwood factory style WS6 ram air hood on my T/A. it fits alright, could deffinitely be better. there were only dimples on the top part of the hood by the windshield pretty much where it bolts to the hinges underneath. other than that it sticks up a little on the front drivers corner, but being its a firebird with many lines on the hood i dont care too much. you can tell its not factory but still looks nice going down the road.

Re: Harwood Hoods

Is the hood functional from the cowl section? Hard to tell in the pic's. Love the look, my car is white, thinking about some kind of accent striping or maybe painting part of the scoop black.

Don't know who you are addressing the question to but if you mean can air roll over the back of the hood and into the engine compartment then the answer is yes; if that makes any real difference.

I concur about the look. I bought the hood from Summit racing thinking when I ordered it, it would be an SS style hood. I opened the box before putting it in my truck and decided to keep it. The 95 year didn't have an SS any way.

If you are deciding to go with this hood and want someone else to do the paint and finish work consider my suggestion to set aside another $100 or so to get the bottom of the hood finished. It really is a nasty looking thing when it is up.

Re: Harwood Hoods

Car looks great Glen, How long have you had the hood on and any problems with cracks? I saw in some older posts that some after market hoods have these problems. Harwood looks like one of the best for the money, it's almost 1/2 the Ultra Z hood from SLP.

Re: Harwood Hoods

I ordered mine from Harwood last year, it had a wonderful finish top and bottom, no dimples. It was a touch short in the front (<1/8") but beyond that it was an awesome product. Mine was not functional and I believe since they are made of 2 pieces they cannot be made so. All the same I liked it. Pictures can be found here: http://community.webshots.com/user/peighntballer

Re: Harwood Hoods

mine had a beautiful finish underneath too smoth and no harsh lines, non-functional i didnt know you could order these to be functional though.. and whoever said b/c its two peice u cant have it made functional, you can have it made that way but it requires a little more work and patience to do so. i was gonna have it done last time i had the car painted but then decided it wasnt worth the extra hassle unless i did the cowl side instead of the r/a side.. only fitment issues i had is like somoene else about 1/8" short in front, but i also had fitment with the fenders, i think my car has aftermarket front fenders though because i got a GM fenderwell and it didnt fit =/

Re: Harwood Hoods

Still haven't ordered one yet. My best friends trying to get me to get the cowl induction version without the scoop. He feels the scoop is to large for the Hood and another buddy recommends the SLP ultra z hood as it can be functional and the extra cost he says is made up in the less work the body shop will have to do plus the fit and finish. Going crazy trying to spend some extra money. Any opinions? I'm still leaning towards Harwood cuz the price is right for the quality.
