I bought my car with the windows already tinted..... I know they are illegal, they are totally black. the only way you can see inside is if you cup your hands on the window and look in, and you can barely see inside doing that. I just went and tested it

Yeah i got a crazy story about tint. Me and my friend who has limo tint all the way around, (5% i belive) we stopped at a stoplight with a cop headed the other direction. As soon as we pulled through the light he made an illegal left hand turn (legal for cops i guess) and nailed us! I have never got window tint becasue of how strict michigan police are about It. The tickets just arnt worth it. Plus with t-tops , u always have the windows down

I can mostly only speak from a Michigan point of view, but my father and I tint windows on the side to make a few bucks here and there. In Michigan, the rear window can be as dark as you want it, as far as the side windows go, its a whole different story. It is illegal, period, to have tint on the driver side and passenger side window, except for the first four inches, starting from the top. Personally, my father and I think this looks like sh**, so our cars have had, and will always have full tint on the side, but you do have to look out for cops though.
Whobetter? is right about the reasoning for tint being illegal, it isn't because cops can't see in, it is for the safety of the driver, and others on the road. If a cop can't see into the car, he/she isn't going to approach it, they'll just tell you to role down the window, or get the hell out.
My father has owned eight camaros (all black), and one ta (red), I own a camaro (dark green), we have always had all windows tinted except for front. My camaro currently has 20% all the way around, 20% is very dark for our cars, partly because of the compact insides, and also because of the curvature of the windows. We have used many different combinations over the years, I like my setup. For those who have trouble backing up, I certainly understand, but if you take your time, its all good.

5% all around since 94. Only one cop has said anything even when I've been pulled over for speeding. The one time the cop mentioned my illegal tint, I just told him its on because the car is parked outside all day and I have no AC, and my windows are always open. He said he understood and left me with a warning about other cops that aren't so understanding. But 8 years and no ticket in FL.

Its different though in flordia then some other states. Prob 30 percent of your cars are all tinted up. It is always nice and sunny there too. I think there is a lower number of people with tint in MI, so the police can still give out tickets left in right with out many major complaints. I know at least 5 people who have had to take off tint due to tickets from them... Thats just my theory. Keep on tinting on !

In Florida the legal tint is 15%. 5% is a little too dark for me. as for the cops pulling you over, they look for people like us with nice cars to f***with. If/when you get pulled over lower the window before the cop gets there. I have heard nightmare of cops taking a blade to each illegal tint and getting a fine for each window. If you are having a probelm seeing through them, you will get used to it. Everyone sufferes the same thing in the beginging.

I have 5% on the back and the sides is 15% which is legal in Texas. I can cup my hands on the back and all I see is black, which I like because no one can see my Amps and Speakers! Backing up is a problem, but I deal with it, and at night everyones headlights look like light dots. Just drive fast and you don't have to worry about hitting anyone. Thats why these cars come with side view mirrors.

I have 5% on the sides and 20% on back. I've gotten two tickets and both times the cop didn't say anything about my windows. The legal limit here is 35% too.

Never get a tint ticket...ever?

If you want to know a way to NEVER EVER get a ticket to window tint, it's simple...don't break the law! I know some people like to have limo tint on their ride, and if the law in your area will allow it, then by all means...go for it. If not, then you're asking for trouble. You can plan on getting harrassed by a bad cop on a bad day if you are breaking the law. It may not happen today or tomorrow...it may not EVER happen...but it might. The fact is...I don't want to give my local police an excuse to pull me over. It's just not something that I like to experience. If that means that I can only have 30% tint on my windows...then fine. I don't enjoy my run-ins with the po-po, so I try not to break the law. Just my $.02

i didint break the law i had the same story the other member told just driving along and the trooper was on the other side of the road made a u turn and pulled my *** over i had 20% in the back and 35% on the sides i thought i was safe yeah right cost me 75 dollars to put 42%on the sides still taking a chance but so far no problems and i think its where you live for some reason the eastern states they are tough on us as the west and south there more forgiving on the % of tint aloud

Back when I got my car last year, the guy who had it before me, had 2% on the side windows (or at least thats what he told me, could have been 5) but you couldn't see that well after the sun went down, in fact you couldn't see at all. I rode around with the windows down after sunset for about 3-4 days, and then my dad finally noticed it, and since the guy worked at the local shop by, he made the guy take the tint off, for my safety, I was really angry about this for a while, but now I understand..I still haven't got any tint on my windows, I think the legal limit here is 35% so i might get 20-30% on the sides and 20% on the back. If you really check all your mirrors and take your time, you can back up pretty well with the tint on the back.
