glitter paint
glitter paint
At the last show I went to, I saw a lot of glitter infused in paint. Most of it was really chunky-looking glitter. Does anyone here have custom glitter-infused paint or paint with metallic flakes? Pics? What was the process like? And how much did it cost?

Re: glitter paint
Im a big fan of, and i think im spelling this right, prizmatique. Its glittery to the effect of very small color changing glitter thats added to the paint. Last i knew it was around $700 for a bottle. But you wont hafta use more than half even to get a really nice effect. My old boss used it on his older El Camino and it was wow.
Re: glitter paint
I just painted my girlfriends truck blue with a blue metal flake. I added the flake to the first 2 coats of clear. Then went over it with 3 more coats of clear. I think I paid $40 for the flake. You have to sand and buff the car, because the paint comes out rough.
Re: glitter paint
I found an easy way to achieve the glitter look (fairly cheap as well) is to pick a factory color with pearl and swap out the peal for something stronger. I used Honda's Nighthawk Black and changed the blue pearl for a coarser pearl. I love the result. It looks black in low light but when the sun hits it it almost has a color changing effect. The blue pearl also pops out. But it's very subtle in anything but direct sunlight.
Re: glitter paint
shouldnt use flake in the clear its not ment for that when shooting flake you need a actuator in the paint gun that will keep mixing the pain or the flake will settle to the bottom and shoot out 1st so lets say you start at the left fender and work your way to the back by the time you get to the back it dont have as much flake... its designed to be in the paint if you are like pure pure custom guy and like to go the extra mile to make it look better you can wet sand between coats for that extra deep and smooth look the 1st coat of paint should be w/o flake just to cover the car thena 2nd coat with medium flake and then the 3rd coat with full amount of flake and should be **** about 12-16in away from the surface so it will help spread out the flake as it sorta mists over the surface its its really hot in the booth maby got o 10in from the surface as what we had to do a few times then shoot 3 coats of clear thats all you need anymore can cause the clear to flake off and get a milky look in the future (10+ years later) also not using the flake in the clear will make a better look and more smooth b4a dn even after wet sanding and buffing.... if a shop ever tells you that you shouldnt or that they dont wetsand and buff after a pint job tell them to **** off and go somewhere else there is no way to get away from "orange peel" look its just part of shooting pain -use to work with some DuPont paint reps b4 i got in the army...
Re: glitter paint
I had no problem with the flake in the clear. I made sure it was stired well right before I sprayed it. And I painted the doors and the bed at different times, and you can not tell any difference in the flake or color. Make sure you measure everything exactly. I put three extra coats to bury the flake, and I knew I would be wet sanding alot off. The result is a flake that look like its floating above the paint. in the sun the whole truck sparkles. I'm happy with the results. After sanding with 1000grit then 2000grit its as smooth as glass, and mirror like.
