Fun time at tint shop, NOT!

This afternoon I went to Smokin' Moes in Penndel, PA for them to tint the back in one piece w/ 5% and the sides w/ 20%. The sides went on fine but the back was a real PIA. After three attempts he gave up. It was then that he remembered that 93s have a different curved glass than the 94+. If I were to buy the glass right now for a 93 from GM I would get the same as 94+ but the 93s came from the factory w/ a slightly different curve. The two different parts would fit in the same opening of the hatch but they are two different pieces. He told me that he could do it in two or three pieces but not tonight. The reason I drove two hours down to Penndel was to have the hatch in one piece. I pulled the front two off, since there were issues w/ them that I didn't care for, then left.
I just thought I would share my 5hr adventure. All I ended up w/ was a spot covered car from the spray they used. I don't know if I want to have the rear done in pieces...may look nasty. Has anyone here had the hatch done in more than one piece?

About the only way that I would accept that the curve of a factory 93 rear hatch would make a difference is if the tint was precut and molded for a 93 vs 94+. Dude is full of crappola.

I did my own windows, 5% all around. This is the only picture I have of the rear tint. (Pay no mind to the flashing lights in the background)

I did it in strips, overlapping slightly and starting at the bottom. I did it that way so there isn't a leading edge to catch air when I drive w/ my windows down. That tint is 4 1/2 years old. It has only a couple spots where it's started to come up, but there isn't a single bubble.

The cost was going to be $205 for all three and the shop came highly recommended by several f-body owners. He wasn't smoking crack but he was smoking something else. He was using one of the software programs that cuts the tint for the window. The software lists 93 and 94+ the same but he is positive that the 93s are different. Now I am looking for a new shop within 100 miles or so to give it a another try. I would pass on the tint but the guy used like 800 grit paper to rough up the edges of the hatch glass. Now I have tiny little scratches around the edge.

So if you are on the outside you can see NO visable line? The guy said that he would put the seams right on the defroster lines but I have seen a few cars w/ multiple pieces on the back and I could spot the lines quickly. I may just let him do it in pieces if I can't find someone that can actually do it w/ one piece.
Thanks

I had mine done in one piece (and if it is done in two or more pieces, then this guy is absolutly amazing since I can't tell the difference). He messed up a tad on the bottom, but he did a good job.

Go to another shop man.

Where did you go man?

I've got this purple tint on the back of mine, want to get rid of it and have the sides and rear done in a darker color.

Thanks

When you see purple tint, that is what happens to tint as it ages. Usually someone going cheap and only getting "3 year" tint. Always go lifetime.

When I went to a tint shop by my work here called royal image, I wouldn't have gone there normally, but a friend at work told me how great they were and his windows looked great. I took my 02' black mustang gt there and they did a horrible job. They scratched up my car by leaning against it with thier belts, cut the weatherstripping w/ razorblades, stepped all over my brand new black leather seats, got wet sticky glue all over my speakers and carpet, they really pissed me off, then they started denying that scrachted my car etc. Oh I was pissed and concocting evil plans for them. I traded my mustang though for my current ride. 2002 artcic white z28. I shoulda never have gone to ford. The rear-end on that stang went out at 25k miles!!!
