Fixed Headlights for Firebirds
Fixed Headlights for Firebirds
I am wrestling with my headlight motors again, and there has to be a better way. Why hasnt anyone devised fixed headlights yet for our cars? I know its possible on 98+ Firebirds, and C4 and C5 corvettes (not to mention they are unbelievably expensive.) It seems like the basic design would be similar to the C4 conversion. Has anyone ever worked on this? It seems like if you had the right parts and know-how it would be just as simple of a design as the C4 lights. Though, I know I read posts awhile back concering them, and aparently there is very limited space because the hood does not slope as sharply as the Corvettes, so people deemed it impossible. But come on Engineering Gurus...Make it So!

I've been working on one, or well had one in mind and am finally collecting parts to create for our cars... I've just had ZERO time with graduating in 17 days, and trying to find a job which I can't, and trying to get my Bird back together before summer. Not to mention the $ for the lights themselves because I'm going all-out on my setup, although one could be built that would be very nice for ~$400 for the lights themselves, and how ever much it would cost to get the parts made from aluminum, for me that's the cost of the aluminum itself because I can make the brackets. But when I can get the $ together I'm going all the way with a dual HID kit lazy eye setup... just gotta get the $ together...

I was thinking about taking on this task myself, I am going to check it out this weekend..and see if I can come up with anything.

There are some pics in the website link on the bottom of the posts.
Well.... Basically there's a plastic frame that's inside your headlights that everything mounts too. What my theory is, is to take that and make something with the same critical dimensions for the mounting of the cover, and the rotational/lift points out of 3/8" and 3/4" 6061-T6 aluminum. Then utilize a cross-brace to make it kinda of shaped like a H and mount the lights to that cross-bar.
Also with this there needs to be made a custom lift arm, to shorten how far the 180* turn the motor lifts the assembly.
I was originally going to use a set of Catz XSL lights for the lows, and PIAA 1100x lights for the highs. 2 different lights because of the beam patterns, the PIAA's are more a straight beam, ligh high's, and the Catz are a little wider, more like a low beams, thos would run ~$400 for the lights alone.
The plan I'm leaning twords now are Hella Micro DE HID lights. They are more expensive, but look so cool, and put of soo much more light.

My headlight motors are on their last leg also plus i just hate pop-ups anyway i was looking at some cars at some import shows (please don't flame i like some imports BUT I HATE RICE and yes there is a difference) anyway at the moment i am working on cutting my fenders for some reverse scoops(think the trans am at Woodward Cruise) so while i was at it i ordered some non pop projectors for a 200 sx and i am currently trying to get them to fit with only cutting the hood i'll keep everybody posted
BTW - i own a 93 trans am W/O headlights right now
