Fiberglass Hood Questions
Fiberglass Hood Questions
Hey, I asked this on 3GO, didn't get a response, so, here goes nothin
Hey, I got myself a Harwood 3" cowl fiberglass bolt-on hood for my 1986 Z28. A few questions:
It looks like it needs to be trimmed to fit, as they say in the label, any tips? The clearance between the edge of the hood and the edge of the fender is approx. 1/4" to 1/2" on the drivers side, and there is negative clearance by about a 1/32" on the passengers side, how would i remedy this? Also, it doesnt latch correctly. There is a _slight_ overhang on the nose of the hood over the front plastic on my Z28. I can get it to shut, the hand latch to latch, and the spring to sit right, but it doesnt "click" into the latch. it will sit about 1/2 the way in it, and actuate it accordingly, but wont click, you know what i mean? Other then that, what a badass hood. Looks real nice from inside the car (its about the only damn thing you can see, lol).
Well, if you know whats up, or another forum that may be more into this sort of thing, let me know! Thanks in advance,
-Rob

Re: Fiberglass Hood Questions
This is the downside to fiberglass. I'd post a long reply, but I dont have time at work. My advice is find a body guy that is comfortable working on it. Fiberglass is great, but this sort of thing (not 100% perfect components) isnt too uncommon. That's one reason when I do anything, I do it with vac. bagging and molds. Makes life a lot easier. Again, if you know nothing of fiberglass I'd take it to a shop. Messing up the hood beyond repair is really easy...
