factory paint ?s - powdercoat ?s

Will car paint (factory) hold up to brake heat and the normal abuse seen by wheels? or can you paint w/ the desired color and then powdercoat clear over? (to lock it in so-to-speak), or perhaps does the powdercoat have any insulating capabilties such that you could powdercoat and then paint over in the desired color? I like the idea of the clear powdercoat over the paint for the durability, but is that the way powdercoat works? or does it have to be applied to bare metal? I am thinking of picking up another set of wheels in the Spring'04, but would like to paint them to match my car (Blue-Green Chameleon). I don't believe powdercoat comes in such a color, tho it could perhaps be mixed to do a similar color(?). Does powdercoat work better on one metal over another? (i.e. steel, aluminum, alloy?) ...if I can't do them in a colormatch, I was also considering having my current polished wheels reconditioned & hi-polished and then shot with a coat of clear tinted with either a translucent blue or green to just give a hint of color (kinda like a pearl-effect). Any ideas? Experiences? TIA -Jeff

Silver wheels from factory are painted and cleared so I would say yes
