Thanks for the help Whistler....

you cut the whole top off right? Pretty much from the windshield to the rear roof piece? Do you have some more close up pics, to show the weatherstripping and stuff?

Also, how did you start the mold for the carbon fiber top? Did you use the original roof piece? Thanks man

God I would love to see some Pix of this targa top, cuz thats gotta look just plain awesome! I have a hard top and I really want to do the T-Top Conversion, but if the Targa Top is a viable alternative, hmmmmm, who knows, maybe that might be in my cars distant future!

Yes, I cut from the windshield to the leading edge of the roof bar. I used a roof skin from a junkyard car to cast a mold from.

Couldn't you weld in some retainer tabs at the back of the windshield section and notch the fiberglass top so that it's held down in the front center and won't lift up???

I'm dying for a company or someone to figure out a way to efficiently do a targa top conversion as I would love to have one.

You know have many cars, best example new C5 corvettes have those little tabs right dead center, top of the driver and pasanger windows? those keep the windows from being sucked out ward by the low pressure that develops arouing them at high speeds.

Well i guess you coulds incorporate those along the windshield side of the roof.

Or maybe another way is to build a slot, much like the one that T-top cars have now in the middle of the roof, that the targa top would slide into before clamping it down on the sides.

This was the main promlem i was thinking i would run into. The top must be very very ridged to work.
Corvettes have 3 clamps/latches for there tops, one center rear and two front. The camaro setup would have to only you the T-top side mount leaving the whole midldle section to leak/lift up or not seat right.

My orginal plan was to use the factory fiberglass roof, and lay about 4-10 sheets aircraft fiber glass down. Now i would like to know the trial and error proccess whitler went through. What kinda fiberglass did you use? i have found this to be quite ridged, altho it may take more sheets of fiber glass to equal the same redgitity of carbon fiber.

Whistler, are you in orlando or melbourne or what? i have met you briefly before and would like to see your car if i can again.

Whistler, do you have any pics of the finished product on your ride? Would love to see what it looks like.

Just got one more question. What did you do for weatherstripping, since you obviously cut off the existing weather stripping channel. Did you just weld on a new lip on the front and back?

Could you use two roof sections, and use fiberglass inbetween? Seems like that would provide enough strength. I just got everything for a t-top conversion, and I am starting soon. However, I would like to do this. I have enough fiberglass experience to handle it, hopefully.

And I would apprecite it if you could post some close up pics.

What I don't get is how the sections where it connects don't stick out since you cut even more of the roof off

thanks man....
