Enclosed headlights????

Has anybody tried to make headlight enclosings for a lt1 body style? I have been thinking about giving this a shot with some clear headlight covers and then finding a way to kinda box them in, like the new vette. Any ideas??

Before you try and make something, you might try and find some. This is an old hot rodders trick. The light housings off a BMW or Miata or even a Honda Civic might be very close needing only slight mods. This way you have replaceable units instead of one-offs.

Re: Enclosed headlights????

I would be interested in seeing how that turned out. I personally think the LT1 Camaro headlights could look better (just my opinion ). I have sometimes thought about taking the GTO headlights and putting them in as a replacement to my stock headlights. I would just have to find someone to fabricate the front bumber, maybe the hood, and fenders, and it would work. What I keep coming back to is it would be too different looking, and it would no longer be recognized to the front as a Camaro.

Re: Enclosed headlights????

Well what I wanted to do was to put some Hella FF75's where the stock headlights would go, but then put the clear headlight covers over them. I had the smoke ones on my last car, but they didn't stay on to well and I really didn't like the fitment to much. So I was thinking about trying to enclose them to make them a more perment fixture on the car. I also want the covers to flow with the lines of the car, just the headlight covers do.

This has been done to LT1 cars with Nissan Silvia headlights.

Unfortunately, I didn't save the pics to a spot where I can find them, and nobody else has them either.

Certain Viper headlights would probably fit pretty good with modification.

Substitute the C6 lights for the GTO lights, and essentially, thats the same idea I had. Never got a quote though. I just thought it would look so far off from a Camaro, it would be ridiculed more than complimented. I would venture to say I wouldn't be the only one on the board who would be very excited to see how your idea would look all said and done. Keep us posted!

Don't venture too far...

You haven't researched lights and LT1's very much, have you?

Regardless how 85% of the Camaro crowd percieves it as looking...30% would love it just because it is better lighting. (Yes, that's the remaining 15% plus 15% of the original haters).

If you want better lighting, all you have to do is switch the bulb to some silver stars. I never said the mojority of people on this board disliked the look of the LT1 headlights. I just said most would likely be interested in seeing a different twist such as this done to the LT1. Not because they dislike the current set up, but because it would be different. Again, this is just my opinion.

Re: Enclosed headlights????

Have to keep my eye on this thread. We all say we want to try something like this but in the end we end up not because it's more than a hassle than anything. After my tranny is built next week and my break-in and shake downs are done I'm sending my car to the shop for a month for paint, body kit, new top, and sylvia or equal conversion.

Working on it, just not much time with work to get anywhere lately.

Re: Enclosed headlights????

I know that feeling Wraith...now that summer is hear I will be working from 10am to 1 30am every day.....oh well, it works out for the car in the end, I mean where else am I going to waste all that money?

I got a couple ideas, just not to sure how feesable they are. I dont want to replace the lights completely with GTO or any other take off light. The biggest problem will be getting it to fit up under the hood......

Ahhh...I misread your first post...My mistake...so basically - we were just agreeing.

Silverstars into the existing housing though won't give you much better lighting, just better looking lighting.
