Eastwood's Hotcoat Powdercoating System

Well after beginning to read a book on Custom Painting by S-A Design, I came upon a chapter dealing with powder coating. Well, after reading all about the uses and how-to's on powder coating, I figured this would be preaty easy to do myself. So I looked up Eastwood's Hotcoat Powdercoating System and found out that it would only take a couple hundred dollars to start. Well, now I have a few questions for someone thats already has or used this system.

First, have you had any problems with it? Is the clean up really as easy as they claim? Does it go everywhere when you spray it or just where you aim since its elctro-charged? Does it take alot of the stuff to cover most parts? (mainly just be suspension parts that Ill do and maybe a set of stock saladshooter rims) Have you used the Almost-Chrome yet? and if you have does it really look like real chrome as they claim?

Thanks

it is definatly an art. I do all my own (my dad has the equip) and I learn each time. I've done wheels, and small wotor parts. I guarentee it is NOT as easy as a books says.

Do you have any pics of the work you've done?

Also have you used the Almost-chrome stuff?

And lastly, anyone know if you can powder-coat springs? I dont know if they constant compressing and decompressing would make it flake off or whatever. Thanks

If I remember correctly, I think BMR's springs are powdercoated. So I guess it can be done.

Hi. I saw that Eastwood system used on an episode of Horsepower TV quite a while ago but I thought it looked cool. The parts they did turned out really well. They said it was real easy. But then again... everything those guys do seems to be an easy job for them. I don't know if I'd try to do my own wheels or anything like that but any small metal parts I'd say if you want to try it go for it.

Yea thats was my plan. Just do a few small not really noticable parts first then move on to the things I want to really do. After I got the hang of it I was just gonna buy a set salad shooters or Z06 rims and see how they turn out. I already have the chrome salad shooters from Rksport so I was gonna kinda compare to see how much of a difference in the Almost-chrome stuff and real chrome there is. Just have to save up a couple hundred and try it out. It will be extremly low cost for me because my dad already has a heavy duty air compresser and sand blaster. Then we have an old stove that was in our house when we moved in and space for the set-up isn't a problem. Just have to save up the money. Later
