Question Duplicolor Chrome Paint?

I've tried twice now painting my Z28 emblems with Duplicolor Chrome Paint. Each time I paint them they come out great looking.

But, everytime I wipe them, the color seems to just wipe off, leaving a darkend grey look. This is after I let the emblems dry for a day and then apply to the car. I used a soft cotton cloth to press them on the car and the color just seems to wipe off.

I did sand and prep the emblem and painted three coats of paint. I did try using a clear coat the first time. But as soon as I applied the clear, the chrome paint dulled right away. I ended up doing that one again, so that would be three times...

Any ideas on what may be going wrong? Or does the paint just not live up to the claims?

Thanks, in advance!

E

I'd just sand your emblems and take them to a place that chrome plates stuff.

Whenver I painted stuff on my Z28, I always clear coated it. I used a polyeurethane finish, but I'm sure you can find something better. Clear coating it is a must IMO.

If you are talking about the RKSport emblems, they are actually not the same style as the 4th gen emblems. They look more the 3rd gen emblems. I was hoping to stick with the 4th gen look...

Just get chrome vinyl overlays. the guy does vinyl overlays and they fit right on top of the stock z28 badges and i know he can do chrome. Ive had chrome vinyl decals done before and they look great.

I agree with Flyinlow. Check with vinsdecals.com. I probably didn't put the right link but maybe someone can help me out here. He might be a vendor here to check out the vendor list and look.

Hey FLYINLOW, nice ride. Its a shame you put that Tampa Bay Buc's frame on your license plate because my 49ers are going to destroy them this week. lol
