Do too many people over-do it?

I try to be pretty open minded when it comes to people and what they like doing to their cars - appearance wise. It is their car, and they can do what they want to do with it.

Some people think any appearance modification what-so-ever is BAD. Some people think you can't get enough. I like some appearance modding, but - I think quite a few people take it too far. Not thinking anyone in particular, just in general. I think aftermarket products CAN take away as much as they CAN add.

I was just wondering if I was the only one who thought this way...

I think the right wheels, a non-rice spoiler, and a nice hood is pretty good as far as small scale changes, and then possibly onto a little drop, and SS stripes...on worthy vehicles. Just looking for everyones opinions.

Performance stickers is what bothers me... putting stickers on your car when you aren't even sponsored, AND you don't even have the part on your car. But you know what, just because it bothers me doesn't mean I would ever get upset about it like alot of people tend to...

What's funny is that alot of people who post in here consider :

"Looking faster than it is" = Rice
"Non-Functional" = Rice
"Mods with no performance gain" = Rice
"Imports" = Rice

Please correct me if I am wrong.... but camaro's will see NO performance gain from the STOCK, RS, WINGS WEST, SCCA spoilers until over 150 mph... which puts most of us in the above category. The V6 Camaro is certainly not fast out of the factory, which would put ALL of them in the above category too...
Ignorance is bliss I guess...

What really pisses me off is when people think that any asian driving any car = "Rice" In other words, a stock Honda Civic SI driven by a Japanese female = "Rice".

Then you have people that don't have much of a vocabulary so instead of saying that something isn't exactly their style, and to them seems distasteful, they call it "rice" . . . go figure. . .

All well said Paul...well said...

BTW, If I was misleading on the spoiler comment I made, I was just saying I didn't really care for the super tall wings or the commando wings and such...I should have critiqued my own vocabulary I guess...

And for anyone who reads this This post is NOT to put anyone's car down either...just wondering what everyone else's thoughts were on the matter...

I plan on takeing a few pics of my car when im done with the apperance. Ill have a windsheild banner and yes stickers on my passenger side window I don't put stickers of mods I don't have and wouldn't do anything that I thought that made my car look like "rice" but I would like to hear everyone's opinions on what my car looks like and if they think it is overdone,if that is the popular opinion I think I would quite it down a little and take some of the stickers off.

I'm afraid I"m taking it too far. I'm turning my car into "rice" and I can't stand rice. I don't know what's wrong with me! I guess I"m addicted...

Altezzas and big *** spoilers are the two things I hate.

I tend to tolerate Altezzas more than big *** spoilers though.

Never liked graphics, or stickers.

EDIT: I should add that I used to have a PONTIAC banner on my windshield, but then I took it off. It looks waaay better without it, much smoother.

I get the "Rice" a lot. Bottom line when I started fixing my car, I wanted something different. Never seen the commando wing around my town, hate the big rksport wing and three piece wing, don't want to copy the SS wing, and don't want to stay factory, so I went with the commando wing. I can see the altezza's are "rice" saying, since the car it was named after is a ***, but I liked the Carbon look on the clear lenses. So I got them and love the look!!! People can call this car rice, but don't think they can say that about my all original 79 Corvette, (67,800 original miles ), and the car group I hang out with driving fully rebuilt 10 sec Anglia’s, and 55 Chevy’s. But this is just my style for this car. I say do what you like, let everybody else do what they like, and enjoy the fact that were all car guys (and gals)!!!

HOLY SWEET wheel and color combo nick ! ! ! ! ! !
Are those 19's ?
That is a perfect example of how the carbon altezza's can actually compliment the car. . they look really good on that color in my opinion.

I totally agree with you Nick...that's what I was trying to stress in my first to posts in this thread...And yes, even though I don't care for the Commando wing and t/l's...I agree with Paul...those wheels go perfect with that color...very nice.

And BTW, I'm not trying to persuade anyone into doing or not daoing anything to their car...like Nick's quote above...let everyone do what they like. I just wanted to know if I was the only person who thought the way I think...

Excellent Feedback! Keep it going (until it turns into a flame, then I'm deleting it.)

Exactly!! I see where your coming from 94blackbowtie!! To each his own!! I don't see how anybody could take this post the wrong way but if it happens....I would delete the thread too !!!!

Thanks for the compliment on the rims!!! They are 18's. Thought about 19's but it is amazing the less tire there is the more expensive they are!!! Also, 18's still hook up, don't know about 19's!!!

puren12g...Love the car!!!

Altezzas and huge wings are rice. Yes, that includes double wings like the Commando wing. Everybody's Civic and their brother's have those things. They definitely don't belong on a Camaro. Any solid background color huge windsheild banner are rice also. That's all that would be rice. Other than that, mod until your hearts are content! I will have a lot of appearance mods done to my Z before it's over. I think it'd be hard to do too much but yes it has been done. Too many painted interior pieces or stripes on the top and the side for instance. Just MHO.

1) If you read the original post, I think you will realize that I wasn't referring to ignorant V6 owners, I was referring to ignorant people who use the term "rice" to describe anything different that doesn't look like their car

2) The "ricer" craze is truly a phenomenon... I believe that it has ALOT to do with maturity, and also wether or not the car owner has ever owned another car. People do crazy stuff when they get their first car, and I believe that in some peoples mind, their first car (whatever it is) FEELS fast.. so to them, it deserves that wing, and should have stickers (just like nascar, or drag cars) even if its a civic.

A few years ago I had a 95 V6 camaro, that at the TIME felt fast. I KNEW that I would probably never own a Viper GTS, and i ALSO knew that my Camaro wasn't as fast as a viper. My car looked sleek, but it looked plain to me (at the time). I liked it better with the Big Block hood, and 30th rims. I decided I wanted viper style stripes, not because my car was a viper, but because I thought it would look good.

Here is the clean look of my lil V6:
http://images.cardomain.com/installs...8_108_full.jpg

Here it is with viper stripes:
http://images.cardomain.com/installs...8_326_full.jpg

http://images.cardomain.com/installs...8_322_full.jpg

The key here is that AFTER having them on for about a year, I decided I really preferred the clean look. The ONLY reason I now preferred the cleaner sleek look, is because I had BEEN there and DONE that

Now alot of car owners with all the performance stickers think it truly LOOKS good. Now, I can't quite figure that out... but saying that it is "rice" may sound like an insult but in alot of circles it's actually a compliment. Here is a interesting tip though: Ask them if they are sponsored... and if not, why are they advertising for Racing Hart, Toyo, Sparco, and Autometer for FREE. That is just taking legitimate sponsorship deals away from others...
