Decals (logo) for Vinyl?

For the outside of our car, we have plastic emblems or decals. I know that on headrest covers and carpet, there is embroidery. But what I am looking for is a decal (iron on?) that would go on vinyl. It can't be as rigid as a plastic decal or sticker, as vinyl is somewhat flexible and porous. What kind of decal, transfer, sticker do I need to get made that will adhere to vinyl??

I'll move this over to the Appearance Section...

Not really sure what a good answer would be for you. Are you talking about vinyl like on a seat or like vinyl on a dashboard?

I am talking about the vinyl that is on the door panel. The material is not leather, it is simple vinyl. I saw a mod someone did where they put either the SS or Z28 logo in the center of the leather (vinyl) insert. I know they make decals for vinyl, but not sure what they actually are... (iron ons, flimsy stickers..???).

Ok, now that we got that squared away, back to the decals. My guess is that the decal would have to be really thin (flexible). Noone has ever seen a decal or logo on vinyl?

I do know what you are talking about, Srper, but don't know how they do it. High quality vinyl is very thin. Tell you what... I'll clean all the slick stuff off my vinyl door panel, make me up a decal with the high quality vinly, and stick a high quality vinyl decal on there and let you know how it fares over the next few days

Brent, high quality vinyl sounds like the solution. I hope that the adhesive they use will be strong, as to prevent peeling and such...

I think the key to it adhering good is that it must be as thin as possible. If it is really thin, then it might fill in the small pores in the vinyl. This is important as the edges of the decal would peel from dust if the decal does not conform to the vinyl surface. My guess is that heat might help in this adhering process.

I do alot of custom vinyl work and I have done what you are looking to do but with a totally differant approach.

I usually cut the logo out in a paint mask and remove the logo leaving the outer edge in tact. I than apply it in the proper position and let it sit for an hour or so gently pushing it down to assure the edges are sealed good. Than I lightly spray the desired color in from directly above the panal using a proffesional grade vinyl dye..

I have had good luck doing this on interior pieces as well as intercoolers and other objects...email me if you have any questions or if you need a paint mask cut..

Good luck in what ever route you go with..

Take care bro..

Ws6cott has the right idea I believe. Make a stencil then dye it! I think that would last a bit longer.

Anyway, I just stuck a decal on my door panel and, so far, it looks like it could work... at least for a little while It is sticking good with no peeling up edges. Not sure how elaborate you are looking to get or how long you need this to last. I'll keep it on there for a while and see what happens
