Dash Pad Install

So I finally got around to replacing my cracked dashpad. The old one was harder to get out than the new one was to get in. Texas heat had made the rubber under the pad melt to it, so the pad and the insulation under it came out in about five pieces each. Man, was the old insulation heavy it was some form of cloth sound deadening. It must have wieghed at least 5 lbs. I got the new pad through GMparts Direct, and the replacement insulation they sent with it was a very lightweight foam. Hopefully it won't melt to the underside of the pad again. I know I've seen people on this board and others say it was hard to get the new one in but with my brother helping on the passenger side it was in under a minute.

Re: Dash Pad Install

The Dash pad was $102 and some change. plus $40 for shipping. The box is big enough for my youngest brother to play in. It took about two weeks from the time I ordered until it arrived, and you will have to sign for it. They seem to only ship thrugh DHL. Shipping will plobably be less, and quicker to FL though, Flow Chevrolet(GMpartsdirect.com) is in NC. It seemed like alot of money to me, but its worth it to not hear the dash rattle, and see the cracks. Mine had a very...ugh...unique sound in the upper RPM range!

Oh yeah its pn: 10267171 on their site.

Re: Dash Pad Install

I guess the best thing to do is to keep them moistureized with Armorall or some other cleaner/protectant, and to use a sun shade. The old one was very dried out and brittle. I could break it with my fingers just by pressing on it.
