What are you trying to work on? I know some people do the vynil route, and some sand the stock plastic parts smooth and paint them. I know part of our cars is resin/fiber - but I was pretty sure the interior parts are all plastic...

Depending on what you want to do will determine what you should use.

Re: Custom Interiors 101

ok, basically what i want to do is mold a new piece in the cup holder of the center console to hold my iPod. I have my stereo wired so that i can just plug my iPod in and play it, but i want to mount it cleanly in the cup holder so i can just put the iPod in the molded piece and then it will be connected.

So i need to find out what material the center console is made of. I guess if its injection molded plastic then im kinda out of luck because it will be hard to match.

Does anybody know if there is a fiber/resin combination that will closely match the style of the center console.

Thanks in advance,
Greg

I think the closest to a match you could get is to fiberglass what you want, and then paint the entire console with the texture vinyl paint by DupliColor, it makes the paint look wrinkled like stock panels.

You could go the easy route and just buy the cup holder Ipod Dock http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...More=T7420LL/A and then if you want it to match add a little paint to it.
