Covering Dash...

Anyone who has ridden in or checked out the interior of a C% Vette will have a pretty good idea of what I am going for here...

I want to cover the dash to make it look a little more - nice, elegant, un-cheap - whatever you want to call it.
Here are a few pics of the C5 interior for reference...

What I am wondering is that if I were to adhere the material directly to the dash surfaces, etc. if it would give a desired look. The Corvette looks a little different than just material glued to the surface - but I am not trying to "replicate" that look - just get a hint of it.

Also thinking - this may help with some rattling and stuff too.
Thoughts, input, advice??? FEED ME HERE PEOPLE!

What kind of material is that exactly? (I've never ridden in a C5 )

Le eh eh eh eh eh therrrrrrrr

try taking the dash apart-90% of it is removable from the car. Then have it covered in vinyl or leather.

see mine:

I had forgotten about your dash being covered...glad you chimed in...

Looking at these three pictures -

that is with your dash covered in leather (or high grade vinyl)? You should know exactly what I am looking for - seeing as you have two C5's. Also - is that just the material applied directly to the dash surface? And how does it look in person? I know it can't look bad - considering your awards - but do you have any more details you could dispell???

My plan is to take it to an auto upholstery shop and have them do this, but I don't know if I need to recommend any other backing, etc.

Oh - and Z28sinx - like he said - the C5's are leather covered - but a high grade vinyl/leather imitation would be just as suitable - and a lot more affordable. Heck, considering all of your luxury cars have vinyl seats except for the center inserts, I think it will suffice.

Yes, it is leather. And yes, take it out and take it to an interior shop, you get what you pay for. You can use high quality vinyl and no one will know the difference too. They can work wonders with this stuff. Yes, it is applied directly to the surface, except some of the parts have been sculpted with foam (like the shaved console and gauge bezel.) It looks way cool in person, totally changes the way it looks vs. the plain plastic. Go for it man, you will love it!
