could i put cadallac stuff in my car, they are both GM?

im not a fan of caddys, but my dad loves them hes had them for years. they handle terrible and are just too heavy and sluggish and uncomfortable. but anyway they have some neato stuff i wondered if i could buy from a dealer and rig up in my car. one thing is the rear view mirrior has a digital compass, displays N for north S for south etc, and i think it auto tints so peoples lights dont blind you from behind. how could i put that in my car?

another thing was his remote for the door locks is freakin perfect you barely touch the button from a long distance and it pops the locks, mine i stand next to the car holding the button in waiting for action (not he battery and ive cleaned the connections a few times). could i just need a new remote, or does his car maybe have a better reciever picking up the remote's signal? i dont even know where the hell that thing is in the car to change it.

thanks for any input i know these probably arent common projects it may take some thinking and research. and they are the first of several unique alternations i'd like to do...

The mirror you can get aftermarket for JCWhitney. Compass, Temp (I think), auto dim and map lights.

The remote entry, I think is our factory unit, where it's place and where the receiver antenna is that causes alot of problems. Just replace it with an aftermarket unit. Prbably alot cheaper then going to the dealer for Caddy parts.

I think it would be a fantastic idea to incorporate some Caddy stuff into our cars.

Some of the interior is vastly superior.

Not to much though - just enough to make it cool looking and functional without being obvious.

If you go ahead, post your results!

Your remote unit is just being a broke-*** ho. Mine did the exact same thing (stand like 2 feet from the car squeezing the freakin' unlock button for 30 seconds nonstop even with a new battery just to get the doors to unlock).

Cough up $40 and get a new one from a dealership. Problem solved. I can unlock my car from 30 ft away with a quick tap on the button

You can search on the forum and find a simple guide to reprogram the car for the new remote.

cough up $40 for a new remote, or a new reciever? i thought about getting a new remote, but i wasnt sure if i could/should change thereciever too, or maybe put it in a better place. is there a part number for the remote? im rather lazy and live in the middle of nowhere i find gmpartsdirect to be a great place to get stuff cheap and fast without moving my *** from the chiar

i didnt want to go a lot of aftermarket i like OEM stuff (even though its from other cars) is it more personal preferance to spend less on aftermaket or does it actually work better?

My 98 camaro came with a rearview mirror with the compass and auto dim with map lights. I bought the car used so I don't know if it's an after market, or stock though.

I paid about $40 for my remote. The car only came with one so I got a spare remote and ignition key. You can just go up to the parts desk and ask for it. They should be able to program it for you as well.

The Chevy Silverado comes with an auto dim/compass/temp on their rear view mirrors. Does anyone know if they could work on Camaros?

would something like this be compatible with my car http://jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stor...X&appId=480270 even though i'd hate to order from a ricer company like jcwhitney (havent looked at their products in years but maybe they arent so bad anymore?) it has more features then the mirrors in other cars ive seen but i'd mainly be concerned with the accuracy of the compass and temperature, ive known stuff like that to get messed up easy. i dont want to spend a lot of money on something thats going to look cheap cuz it dont work great. mounting the sensor for the thermometer is tricky, too close to the engine bay throws it way off and most other places get a massive wind-chill effect.

$300 for a compass and a thermometer
I think I'll pass...maybe they have better prices on ebay

Not to say this is not a good idea, compass and temp would be cool. Also it would be nice to have one of those displays that tells how many mpg you are getting and distance to empty and stuff like that.

The Only thing I would like to do is get rid of that out-dated turn signal, every GM car and truck even the cavilers had nicer ones, I don't why they didn't update the Camaro's too, and I wish they wouldn't have cheaped out and not put lights in the window, lock and mirror switches, If they would have did that and charged $150 for a new car it would have made no difference to me. The $120 option for leather shift, wheel and brake should have been standard too. Everything else is pretty satisfactory. My next car will probably be a cadilac, they have good performance, style and comfort, My uncle has an Eldorado, that car is sweet, it has over 140,000 miles and it is still in good shape.

ronin just to let you know, thermometers don't have a "wind chill". To give you an example, if you set a glass of water outside when it is 33°F it will not freeze if the wind is blowing at 0 mph and still won't freeze if it is blowing 50 mph. In the 50 mph wind the glass of water will simply reach 33°F faster.

Basically the point of my ramblings is that you can mount a the thermocouple anywhere away from engine/exhaust heat and get decent temperature readings at any speed.
