Cost of Paint Job???
Hey guys currently my SS is black and I'm looking to get it painted Sunset Orange Metallic
Can anyone give me an estimate on how much this may cost??? (With the cost of the paint and the cost of having the actual car painted). Also, I'm in the Chicagoland area, anyone know any good places to get this done (within about 2-3 hours of Chicago). Thanks.

Re: Cost of Paint Job???
if you want to have a factory quality job, and are looking for the engine bay, door jams, etc painted another color, as if it were a factory job you're going to be looking at at least 5k to have a shop do it.
Re: Cost of Paint Job???
It is all releative to what kind of quality material and finish you are looking for. Its not out of the question to pay upwards of 10K for a great paint. for most applications however, its from 4-6k for a real nice one. These prices can be cut down though if you do the prep work yourself. It helps if ya know somebody in the body hsop buisness. Luckily I get most of my painting done at cost. Hope that helps.

Re: Cost of Paint Job???
A shop like Maco not including door jams and engine bay, but still looks alright $3,000-$4,000
A very reputaple shop that will do the highest quality work, and will paint everything $8,000-$10,000
Most of this like the previous post says can be drastically reduced if you do a lot of the labor yourself. It's the labor that most of the cost belongs to, not so much the actual paint and supplies. Having that said, I do know that red, and orange paint is the most expensive.

Re: Cost of Paint Job???
Maaco painted my '84 Camaro for $350 including pin striping. Yes, that's three hundred and fifty dollars.... not $3K-$4K. That would just be a waste of money on Maaco quality (or lack there of).
CALL911 is right about the labor. If you learn a little bit of bondo work or fiberglassing, you will save HUGE on the total costs. Sand your car down (maybe avoid the quarters since they're metal and you'd then have to prime them, which, primer is the most essential part of a paint job) and do all the dents and dings yourself over a weekend or something.

Re: Cost of Paint Job???
As a rule of thumb we tell customers anywhere from 1500 to 3000 to keep the same color. A color change can escalate depending on the shape of the car and how much needs to be removed.
My advice, since it's black I say F the engine bay unless you're going for a show car. I think a black engine bay looks better anyhow. Door Jambs are a must but the best way to get a killer paint job is remove everything that can come off and thus avoid tapelines by panel painting.
CALL911 is dead on though. The majority of the cost is in the labor.
