they told me the defroster glass was made into top and had to be replaced. im also reusing my headliner...

I always thought that the rear glass window was a separate piece that you could keep (if your window is still good). I think I remember some pricing I looked up a while ago, that said that was the most expensive piece (I think $400-500). The top itself is only a few hundred dollars. Installed for both pieces I'd say that's pretty decent price.

Thanks for sharing the info!

I think Sam95ZNoTop is right,

In the Helm manual it looks like the rear glass is bolted to the covertible top - maybe you CAN keep your glass and save some money?

Hopefully someone with a convertible will chime in here - $500 bucks is $500 bucks...

Good Luck

It is a two peice top . The peice with the glass is seperate . If it is just the top that needs to be replace then it should be around $500-$600 . I've had two tops installed in the last year . The actual top is cheap , its the labor that kills you .

Where are the drain plugs? I did not know there were drain plugs??

BTW, when I said the piece with the glass is separate, I meant to say that it is still a piece of the top but it has the rear glass in it and I am guessing it bolts the the frame somewhere under the liner. The main top then goes over that. That would mean you could replace one and not the other, since the two pieces are not attached.

the drain plugs are in the floorboard;
one under the passenger side floor
one under the rear floorboard
and one under the rear seat.
there are 3 on each side.

the back glass is sealed into the top.

I replaced mine about 2 years ago. The top is two pieces not including the liner. The top part "big piece" was 500 and the rear piece "including the glass" was 600. I found out most if not all dealers do not do trim work at all. They contract it out to a local shop. I asked what shop they would take it too and I just went there and cut out the dealer. Cost $300 just to have the dealer drive it over there and back. What a rip.

Man! You all sure like spendin money.

As mentioned two pieces, top and rear panel w/glass. Had my 97 rear panel replace 8/2/02 with defroster glass, total was 479.80 parts and labor.
