Question ? concerning Suncoast SS hood compared to Factory SS

A guy in the 4-sale section has a Suncoast Creations SS hood for $500. Its functional and I think it includes air box, and all hardware. It sells for $795 at their site, plus S/H. My question is, is this a good deal, and how much, if any, does this differ from a stock SS hood for 93-97 Camaro's?
This hood is brand new, with black paint. He wrecked his car, and was having it repaired at the bodyshop, and they ordered this hood, but he wanted to stay as original as possible, so this led me to believe there was some difference between it and stock SS hoods. Could someone please help me out on this?
Also, if you have a Suncoast hood, how is fit and quality on it? Thanks for the help.

I have the Suncoast Creations SS hood. It is a very good facsimile to the original SS hood. Of course it is fiberglass rather than steel. It has overlapping baffles in the intake to block water. The orginal hood channels the air differently, I think. The scoop seems to be slightly bigger. Fit and quality is fair to good. Make sure your body shop is welling to sand some high points and smooth the curves. I've had it for three years with no problems.

Unless the manufacture has changed it's assembly process, the air box appearance quality sucks. I sent mine back and the returned replacement box was slightly better. It does make the hood functional. I've since replaced the air box with an orignal I bought from a guy here on the board.

Thumbs up

Aircop: your car looks AWESOME!!
Love HRE rims, wanna sell 'em cheap?
LOL
So do you guys think this would be a good deal, or what? $500 too much, or is that pretty fair? Its been painted Black, and I'd have to have it painted to match my (quasar blue) car. Would you do it? I've just been so into getting a big block style hood, (not a Z-roc) that I'm just not sure if an SS hood will make me happy. But, I don't have the money for a big block hood, so a deal is hard to pass up. Money's tight, gotta take what you can get. Am I right, or should I wait for what I really want which I'll never be able to afford. Man, its making my head hurt!!

I'd say go for it if you've got the funds. The black paint will show any surface flaws that need correcting.
The GM SS hood is fiberglass too, BTW.
