Clear coat Peeling
Clear coat Peeling
I have some clear coat chipping off right under the driver's side door window, right under the rubber. Is there anyway to hide this unsightly peeling, or do I just have to take it to the paint shop and see what they can do?
clear nail polish is a quick repair...but not fix..its comming off on my hood scoops area and need to touvh it up there so it dosnt spread..
Like I said its not a fix..but with a nice brush and some thinned out nail polish clear it can cover it..and a few coats of wax..hard to tell

yeah, have never done that, but I might give the nail polish a try first since those supplies are easy to come by, and is simple. if that doesn't work then i'll have to try the wet sanding out, thanks for all your help.

Try wet sanding with an 1800 grit, feathering out to the good clearcoat. Move up to 2000 grit, and repeat the process. Then go to a good polishing compound. The feathered clearcoat should be transparent after polishing, and cleaning. Go over the area with new clearcoat, and feather it in after it drys.

Bralgar is correct. You cannot properly repair peeling clear coat without repainting the panel. If you sand basecoat you have to put at least one coat of basecoat over it to keep the area from looking discolored after clearing it. Any automotive paint professional knows that that is the correct way. Even when there is a run in the base you have to sand out the run and blow a few coats over the run area otherwise you will see where the run was. Remember that clearcoat will magnify any blemishes underneath it.
