Question Cleaning Engine

Everyone with an LT-1 should know that we shouldn't pressure wash our engines due to the risk of getting water in the distributor. If we can't wash our bays this way, then how? Any ideas, tips or techniques?

you are correct!! do not use a hose of any sort on our cars. too risky getting the opti wet $$$$$$$

just fill a plastic spray bottle with water, cover the opti with saran wrap, or old towels and lightly spray the engine bay down with engine degreaser or simple green. (make sure your motor is cool to the touch) be sure to angle the spray towards the firewall (away from opti area)

allow to soak and get a little brush to dig out any stubborn dirt/grease spots. use your spray-water bottle ro rinse after 10 mins. of the degreaser soaking in. again, be sure to shoot your spray water bottle away from the opti area.

wipe off any excess water, remove your opti-rag and start up. let it run and get hot to burn off any residual water.

if you want a more "new car" look, mix some armor all with the spray bottle water (70/30 mix in favor of the armor all) and after shutting off and cooling the motor, cover up your opti again and lightly spray the plastic parts of the engine bay with the armor all mixture. let that soak 10-15 mins, and then re-apply once or twice more. when everything is nice and black and shiny, wipe off excess and repeat above steps to dry off the engine again.

s/b lookin real good and new by now!

good luck, and keep moisture away from the opti at all costs.

Let the car run and hose it. It shouldn't hurt.

having the motor running will NOT prevent water from getting into the opti!!

I use a rag and simple green, armor all, metal polish, etc and just a clean rag. NEVER spray your engine. Not worth the damage it can cause.

I got pics of some good elbow grease in my sig. They are blurry though.

Ive sprayed mine, and my buddies engines with Goop Engine Bright, let it set a few minutes, and used a rag where there were some really ****ty spots. then sprayed down with a hose. Engines still run. Obvioulsy cover as much electrical wiring, sensors, etc. I just use plastic bags. no biggie.
