Chrome Plastic Headlight Bezels

I am looking into getting an original chrome plastic headlight bezel for a 79' Z28. It is silver but my headlight bezels are black. If I painted the bezel black, would it look the same as the original black one?

The z28s had the black bezels and the chrome were for berlinettas I think. You could paint it but I think eventually it would pop off. You can look at National Parts Depot books and they sell them for $13.00 a piece for the chrome ones. i don't know about the black ones though. if you go through the sanding process and primer-It should be fine.

This is the bezel I'm talking about. Does it look like I could just go ahead and paint it or shoud I sand and primer it like you suggested?

To tell you the truth-I think it would be better to go ahead and buy new ones(about$25)and know that they would last and not worry about paint popping off. You can do it by sanding and primering, but if you were to spray it straight-it wouldn't stick to the chrome plating stuff. They can be painted though. I'd suggest a flat black or gloss black depending on your car color. I think flat black was original. I need some black ones too. My car has original black Z28 bezels and they are cracked-You could also check out a JC Whitney catalog. Their stuff is cheap!
