My center console sucks. From the casette holder to the cigarette burned shift plate to the missing ashtray lid to the broken console lid, it sucks. I am not the hulk or anything, but i find that the insanely tall console lid (which is broken btw) interferes with proper shifting. I am contemplating removing the entire console, and making just a mini console around the shifter, just a small metal box-like thing to hold up a shift boot and cover up the transmission innards.

Has anyone done this or anything similar? Are there huge gaps in the carpeting under the "storage" area?

In a previous thread I saw some discussion about some sort of smaller parking brake, which I would think well with my idea. Is it hard to relocate the parking brake?

Any advice is very appreciated!

I believe he is talking about removing the whole console and just making a mini console. To the thread poster, i think if you have a 93-96 Camaro it would look really funny, because of the big gap under the dash and the fact that you have no console. If you have a Firebird/97+ camaro dash it might look so bad as the dash goes down a lot closer to the floor.

I know but you have a 97+ console in there so its not that bad. I believe this guy is talking about making his own mini console that only covers the shifter and Ebrake handle. If thats true then there would be huge gap in the front.
