Can you paint glass?
I have t-tops, and t-top shades. I hate my t-top shades, they are old, crusty, and always fall off and bounce around. I don't want to deal with them anymore.
However, I don't want the car getting extremely hot during the coming summer months. Some people will suggest tinting, which I considered...but tinting still lets light through.
I don't want ANY light coming through! ZERO! ZILCH! NADA!!
Can I just take some black (or gray, seeing as my interior is light gray) spray paint and, well, PAINT the interior portion of my T-top? Will paint adhere to glass? Are their paints especially made for glass? Thank you!

No matter how well it sticks to the glass, it will still be very easy to scratch the paint. I wouldn’t even take them off if you’re going to do that.
Your best bet is to go buy some new shades (or even look on eBay) and maybe go to home depot and buy some new velcro.
If you want to test my theory first, paint a small stripe on your bathroom mirror ... and tomorrow take a penny or something across it. I bet it will scratch right through.

A blackout window film/tint might work better than paint.

BTW, what does "etched" mean?
Thanks for the replies, but I will NOT buy new sunshades.

if you can find it, maybe black contact paper would work for you? i dont think it would let any light through and it would hold up better than paint, and could be removed if necessary.

Also - how about either more coats of Nite-Shades or a couple of coats of 5% (or darker if they have it) window tint? I was experimenting with VHT Nite Shades on some fog lights once - and I eventually got it so dark that you could barely tell they were on (aftermarket fogs with 85 watt H3 bulbs). You can get the stuff really dark, and if you have already done that, you may just want to lay it on a little thicker.

Don't the craft/hobby stores carry special glass paint for the Martha Stewart in all of us?

Come on now. You KNOW you just want to paint "East L.A." or Los Vatos Locos" in Olde English on your hatch glass

I like the black vynal idea a lot, and I'll be sure to check out the local hobby shop near me.
