a buddy of mine is selling a lift off hood. i was wondering if that can be made into a bolt on? i dont really know what the difference is too much beside a lift off just kinda sits there and is held on by pins.

I don't think a pin on hood even has a frame I highly doubt it

Typically, lift off type hoods don't have near the structural support of a bolt on hinged hood. For example, if I remember correctly, the hood on my 94Z weighs around 24 lbs. The same hood in a pin on style weighs about 1/2 that.

If the hood is at all different structurally I wouldn't recommend converting it to a bolt on hinged hood.

Most lift off hood (or race hoods) are much thinner and/or don't have as much reinforcement under the hood. Thus requiring more pins or Dzus type fasteners around the perimeter to secure them.

However, on my 84 hood I used the stock hinges without the pressure struts. I mounted the hood to the hinges using Dzus fasteners and pinned the front. This way I could either remove the hood or lift it like an ordinary one, using a front stut to support it.
