Camaro Carbon Fiber Hatch

What do you guys think of this?

Camaro Hatch

The stocker is fiber glass... one is carbon.... but we all know the rear end of our cars are pretty light anyway... so how would this help? We need some Carbon Fiber T-tops, and door panels. That would help out allot.

Just a guess, but I bet the glass in the hatch may be as heavy/heavier than the actual hatch.

You could probably save more weight by replacing the glass with plexi glass or something.

Or you can go with a "notch" type rear like the one RKSport sells. I looked on their website [raceonusa] and they sell Japanese Camaro bodykits.

yep, i doubt its more than a few lbs lighter than the stock one, and probably won't fit nearly as good either.

carbon fiber (or fiberglass) t-tops would be cool since you could paint them to match your car and not have to worry about those stupid inserts for the sun.

Re: Camaro Carbon Fiber Hatch

Truthfully, if I ever win the lottery, I'm buying that hatch for cosmetic purposes. Then I would just need a carbon fiber spoiler, and a carbon fiber front bumper... and a carbon fiber hood like the one I have (Zroc/Stinger) Hrrrm and maybe a carbon fiber C-pillar, too.

Re: Camaro Carbon Fiber Hatch

Honestly I could use some Carbon Fiber T-tops, and interior replacement panels... becasue those pieces alone on our cars weigh tons.

I'm 99.9% sure that hatch is a stocker that's been wrapped in carbon fiber. It's heavier than the stock hatch.

Re: Camaro Carbon Fiber Hatch

It seems close to impossible to believe that is a stock hatch wrapped in CF, that is VERY impressive work if so. If you take a stock item and wrap it in CF, you're going to change the size of the item because you're adding an additional layer of "fiber" and then the resin on top of it. Chances are they did a mold and then used carbon fiber and fiberglass...

Re: Camaro Carbon Fiber Hatch

It would be alot more money than that if that were true.

Look at the rest of they're stuff, that's how they make it (wrapping original pieces).

It doesn't change the size much at all, the original piece is sprayed black and a thin wrap of carbon is all it takes. They're not the first company to do this.

If you want a light hatch, vfn makes a pin on one, but lexan must be used with it. It can't handle the weight of glass.
