Angry Calling on ALL ASCD Hood Owners Please Read This!

Ok after speeking to a real helpful person about my mis-alignment of my New ASCD hood it seems this happens frequently with ASCD's hoods. So I wanted to make a post to see actually HOW frequent it is. The problem I'm having with my hood is that it is 3/4" too high in the back. So if you 've had the same problem or something similar please post it here and let me know and what your solution was, thanks.

Angry

My hood sits way too high in the back. Looks awful up close. It also leaves a gap between the hood and the front facia. I hope to find a body shop that can make it fit better when i do the paintjob. Everyone tells me thats just the way with aftermarket hoods

Angry Any Help?

I thought I would leave a post on how "well" ASCDs customer service is. From spending $600 on a hood that costs only $100 at the most to make you'd expect impeckable customer service... WRONG. After making a call this morning @ 9 A.M. and just another @ 11:30 A.M. it seems they cannot find their "Technicians"!

From the start I've been having problems with ASCD. First it's with shipping. I purchased a 98+ SS hood on Janurary 30th via PayPal and was promised it would be shipped out on the following Monday. So Monday rolled around and I got no e-mail with a tracking# so I decided to give them a call for the first time. Of course Customer Service wasn't what was expected, The women I spoke with wasn't aware of what was even happening! So she was "suppose" to call me back @ work....do you think she did? Well after calling them back I've come to find out my hood wasn't really gonna get shipped out until Thursday-Friday....or so they said. Thursday came and Thursday gone, along with Friday. Friday evening I called them and they said Definatley Monday. Now that I have my hood, it doesn't even fit correctly!

They now tell me, "Well why didn't you say you did a 98+ conversion on it? It has to be made differently." Bullsh*t, if anyone had a brain they would know that the only thing different in the 98+ fenders is the headlight area. That has nothing to do with the back of the hood being 3/4" higher and the front of the hood being too far from the front fasica. There also a dimple on the top side along with a abnormal, but obvious dip in the mold above the LH headlight side. I'm a waiting your call ASCD....

I own an ASCD hood actually 3 of them (97 WS6, 99 WS6, and a 98-02 SS hood and SS spoiler).

No problems 99.999999% of aftermarket hoods need a little adjustment to fit correctly. When we installed mine for my 01 Z/28 World Wide Camaro did a Tech article on it. We had some minor issues with gaps and the rear drivers side corner sitting higher. With adjustments of the hood bracket, and raising the drivers side 1/4 panel the hood fits just as good as the OEM SS hood.

I have seen almost every aftermarket hood in person on peoples cars and just about every one of the have some sore of fitting issue with some patience and time you can get your hood to fit almost perfect.

Go to my site www.01pewterz28.cz28.com go to the ASCD SS hood see the before and after install pics.

My 99 WS6 and 97 WS6 hoods fit great as well no issues.

I agree with 01 pewterZ28. I've got a ASCD 93-97 SS hood and wing on mine. The hood took some adjusting but fits fine now.

I've also had 2 other cars with fiberglass hoods and they all needed adjusting some.

Every car and every hood is different. I've seen actual SLP SS's that the hoods didn't fit very well.

Sometimes if a car has been wrecked in the past it can make it tough to fit also.

Work with it and you'll eventually get it.

Not all hoods fit just perfect when they are first bolted on. It takes some work, adjustment, and re-adjustment to get them to fit. Heck, even factory hoods might require some adjustments too. An experienced body man should know this about an aftermarket hood. Did you have an experienced body guy install the hood? Was there an attempt made to make adjustments?

When I first installed my VFN hood, it fit like CRAP. After an hour or two of fiddling and adjusting, it fit better than the stock hood. At first I thought the hood was messed up but it was only that we needed to make a few adjustments.

It sounds like the company is trying to make you happy... after all, they are willing to replace the hood for you. The 3/4" too high could be a tweaked hinge. Not saying it can't happen but it seems odd that it is 3/4" out (that's a lot!!) when these basically come out of a mold. They have been around for a long time and if every hood was that far off they wouldn't be in business anymore. Basically, just trying to say that there is a possibility there is nothing at all wrong with the hood but instead something "different" about your car that requires a little work to make the hood look good.

Good luck getting the problem resolved but before getting too carried away with shipping hoods back and forth, I'd go to an EXPERIENCED body guy (if you haven't already) and ask him if he can adjust it.

I have more than enough experience in putting a hood on that's kind of an insult. I noticed that volZfrk is located where ASCD is and 01Pewter is located where Suncoast Creations is, which are both owned by the same guy! And volZfrk is also listed as "Production Tech" in his profile .....Well I think I tried everything, but I am more than willing to try out something new as long as it's not hacking away at the hood itself. Pewter, shoot me that article on fitting your hood please.

I'm trying to give ASCD the benefit of doubt because I believe they make great products. I've just felt like I've been getting shafted lately, when I called 3 times today I found out that their "Technician" had the flu and called off.....go figure.

I would much rather have this turn out to be my error than to wait another 2 weeks for my new hood....

I can tell you for a FACT that Rex Orr the owner American Sports Car Design does NOT own Sun Coast Creations. I actually met the owner of SCC's (I owned 5 SCC's 97 WS6 hoods in 12 months as they all fell apart then they told me to get lost) The owner of SCC's brother actually works for SLP.

Just wanted to clear some things up. As far as the hood aligning up, I will find out as soon as I get the 98+ hood hinges. But I read numerous times from other people who have done front end conversions that the original hood hinges work.

I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me if there are any physical differences in my 93 hood hinges and the 98+ hinges? I'd greatly appreciate it, my local GM dealer told me there were different, but that's the most he could tell me...

As far as customer service, it was poor at first, but seem to vastly improve after posting here. Don't get me wrong these guys make a great product and probly have alot of **** to do but I was down and out after spending so much on a hood that I thought wasn't even fitting correctly that I just needed to speak with someone who knew exactly what I was talking about.

All in all, if this hood ends up fitting right with the new hinges then I apologize for the inconvience ASCD, and would look foward to buying an SS wing to match the hood

Sincerely,
Paul
