Caliper Paint

Hey,

What's the coldest you should attempt to paint calipers in? It's not a matter of comfortability, but a matter of the paint sticking. It's about 30 degrees right now (warmest it's been in a while) and I'm wanting to get this done.

Also, I plan on doing two coats of paint, then a layer of 'engine enamel clear coat' (haven't bought it yet, I believe that's what it's called). Is this the standard procedure, or are other things involved?

Let Me Know,
Thanks,
Kevin

I was planning on just washing it off with soap and water and going with 2 layers of paint, one of clear coat. I haven't looked into this at all, so I don't know the standard procedure. What kinda primer (as in, when I go to AutoZone or whatever, what name brand / exact name should I get)? I'll probably end up doing 2-3 coats of regular paint. As far as sanding and brake cleaner goes, I wasn't planning on doing either of those. I was planning on keeping the brakes on the car, and just masking off the stuff I didn't want to paint. I'd imagine it'd be a bit hard to sand with it still on the car? Also, what kind of sanding are you talking? Sand blasting? And lastly, what clear coat name / company / brand should I use?

I dont know what color you're planning on doing, but here's what I plan on doing. Should last longer than paint...

i did mine last spring, i bought high temp "caliper/engine enamel" just to be safe. make sure you clean them good or the paint will flake of
i didnt use any primer but used about 5 coats of paint, its not bad because you do the other calipers while you waiting for it to dry
mask everything, but dont freak if you get some on the rotor, one hard brake and it will disapear
and if its a little sloppy or runny no one will be able to tell, expecially if you have the stock rims w/ the wide spokes
its a great first paint job. mine still look bright red, i quickly clean them whenever i wash the car
-good luck

ps: MAKE SURE you pick up some caliper decals from afterthoughtsauto.com if you want to see some pics e-mail me ill send them over they look awsome
