Question C5 17/18's or 18's all around????

I am buying chrome C5 rims this week for my car who is deperately waiting to come out of storage. I am debating whether to get 17 fronts and 18 rears or 18's all around. Both will look good but I haven't seen them in person on a Camaro. For rims and tires I will be looking at a $300 difference if I go with the 18's. I need some constructive opinions, I can't make up my mind.

Thanks,

John

Thumbs up

Without a doubt go 18's front and rear. Who wants different sized tires anyways?

18x9.5's for sure

I have those same rims an LOVE them, 18's all around with Kumho 275/35/18's. I dont have any pics to post, but got quite a few to email. If youd like i can email you some pics, but i've got a Formula not a Z.

Thanks, I just saw a T/A on LS1.com and they look awesome. It is really pushing the budget, but hey, you only live once!!! If you don't mind, I'd love to see some pics of the 18's.

17's

I personally am going for the 17's. I just can't justify all the extra money on 1 inch. We're talking more money for rims...and quite a bit more on the tires any time you need new ones. Money isn't my main issue though...it's also ride quality. The less sidewall you have...the more bumpy the ride. Does the inch make that much of a difference? I dunno. I just know that the 16s came stock on the z's. The 17's were on the SS's...and that's big enough for me. No reason to go bigger. Just my honest opinion though...it's a completely subjective subject..."your mileage may vary".

I have all three sizes, stock 16's, ZR1 17's(roadracing), and 18's(dailydriven).

With 18's you feel every bump in the road, the car is more responsive. But its nothing too harsh for daily driving. Taking sharp corners can be done with ease compared to the 16's which have a LOT of body roll. 18's was thee one biggest improvement in the handling department When cruising on a smooth road, the 18's really shine If i had to do it over again, i would go with a different tire than the Kumho's, they follow every groove in the road an sometimes it gets annoying. One disadvantage is there are no drag radials in 18's, even if there were i wouldnt use em.

The 17's have a slightly softer ride with 275/40/17's. Greatest advantage is drag radials can be had for 17s, as well as tires for roadracing. More tire choices for 17's compared to 18's.

The 16's. . well. . 16's just bore me. . lol

Basically...the 17's are a happy medium. Some strictly drag cars will use a welded 15...lots of guys going for track times want the 16s for the side wall...for show and cornering guys, the 18's. To me...the 17's is a happy medium between the 2. Kinda a little of both...but I'm still not really sure any of it really makes a bit of difference...LOL!

I have 17's on my Mustang and I'm kicking myself for not going with the 18's on there as well... That 1" makes a huge difference to me.

I plan on putting Nitto NT-555's all around. I can get the whole set for under $850.

I run Kumho's on both of my cars and couldn't be happier. I see no point in spending twice as much for minimal gains on other tires... Just my opinion of course. Also, just trying to give John some info since I do run these tires exclusively.
