Brake pads and calipers

I'm going to be painting my calipers and since I have no idea how to bleed a brake line i'm going to leave the line attached; I'm just taking them off the rotors. Do I need to take the pads out of the calipers or can I just put tape over them and spray the caliper?

I used an old coat hanger wire to hang the caliper from the front spring, just don't let the weight of it hang from the brake hose. I just held it with my hand from the rear as I painted it, ( I had surgical gloves on) I just put paint where it would be seen. I toke the pads off and painted the side you see black like the rest of it. I also took off the bracket that holds the caliper and painted it black too. I used 3 coats of black heat paint and 3 coats of high temp clear coat on top of the black and the "camaro label". I sanded the outside of the caliper smooth with 100 grit paper on a small palm sander. And clean up where you will paint with brake cleaner real good first. Did the rear the same too, just no label. The camaro label added to the look. Click on the wheel for close up.
