Bonding a scoop to a hood

I really don't have the cash for an SS hood, but I do have a spare stock hood for my Z, and can afford a $50 SS scoop from Summit. I have a friend who has owned a body shop for years and does greast work who is willing to do it for me. My question is, has anyone done this, or ever bonded a scoop to a hood and made it seamless? Does it work?

it can be done. it is not easy though. cutting, welding, shaping. you need to know what you are doing.

It's not very hard at all! it's just very time consuming i assume the scoop is fiber-glass or abs? so there will no welding i had my mecham wing molded on my T/A by a friend that works at a body shop and watched him several times . very cool stuff to learn, since then i've started to learn how to work with abs and fiber-glass. like i siad easy just takes time and very messy Good luck! post pic of finished hood.

Re: Bonding a scoop to a hood

Sorry guys, I should've specified, the $60 version made by AutoVentShade is ABS and there's a larger one made of Fiberglass by Harwood for around $130. Although its more, I like the fiberglass one more, so I'll probably go with that. The guy I'm friends with said he'll paint a stock hood for free, or flatten the vents on a stock hood, bond the SS scoop to it and paint it. I imagine it's not too hard to blend it into the hood. I'll post pics when its done, the but it won't be until January, since that's when I can give him my car for a few days to blend the paint. I don't know what he's using to blend the scoop in, but he said there's a special thing to use that won't crack like Bondo will.
