Blue dash lights

How can I get my dash lights blue without changing out the cluster on my 96 Trans Am? I have done a search and can't find anything. Is it just a piece in front of the bulbs that make the lights red? I was thinking this because the bulbs were just normal bulbs.

Yes there is a film in the cluster that makes it light up red. I've heard you can disassemble the cluster and take the film off but i'd never try to do that. There are some companies that sell them that light up blue. Try www.procarparts.com

Why wouldn't you try it? I think I might try this weekend. I will let you know how easy/hard it was.

Re: Blue dash lights

Thats all you have to do in a Camaro because the gauges light up white from the factory, but in a T/A they use standard bulbs and an overlay thing to make the dash lights red. Thanks for the input though. Atleast I have an idea of how many bulbs to get. Where did you get your bulbs form?

Yeah, I had it apart but didn't know to just pull the needles off, so I will try again tomorrow.

Re: Blue dash lights

They actually make a tool for pulling needles off. Basically two little fingers that slide under the needle to pry it off evenly. If you're careful with a screwdriver, you should be ok though.

My question is, how do you know where to put the needles to get them back on? Are they keyed so you can't mess it up?

Nope they aren't keyed.
PS. Do a search on LS1tech, they had some good info on this subject.

Re: Blue dash lights

Well, I spent all Saturday getting the red off of my gauges. It wasn't hard at all, but very time consuming. I used laquer thinner to soften up the glue, then a screwdriver to scrape the glue off. Then I used a box knife blade to scrape all of the red off. I haven't gotten any blue bulbs yet, so it is just lighting up white now. I also repainted my needles in silver and then put them back on and had to reset all of them. Everything is working good now though.

Sounds cool. What are you gonna do about all the other TA red lights? Like the ones in the door panels.

I'm not sure yet. I think I am going to make every light, all dash lights and door lights blue. I have a blue Panasonic stereo. So I am just going to make the whole thing blue.

Re: Blue dash lights

Just take some detailed pictures of your cluster before you remove the needles.

Can we get a picture of the silver needles?
