Blacken Interior

Hey Ive got the graphite interior and I think it would be friggin sweet if I could turn it black and maybe have to some silver accents since thats what my exterior is like. I know where to find black carpet that is for the firebird with mats, just need to know what sort of paint you use for the dash and stuff that would keep the texture it has. Saw some dupli-color paint for interior trim the other day that was GM black but wondering if it would look right if I used semi gloss or flat, dont want gloss, that would look like cheap plastic but figure flat black would look more leathery or natural like it was always that color... jsut curious if anyone has done something like this or what I should use if I did try this... thanks in advance...

I am actually doing the exact same thing, plus having the headliner redone in black.

f-bodycarpets.com has the carpet. A little pricey, but it is top of the line. $350 shipped, I am getting some SLP floormats for like $80.

For the interior, I got the best stuff I could find. It is SEM vinyl and plastic dye. I got this because it can go on the somewhat flexible surfaces, like arm rests and the dash. I am gonna put a clear coat over that, and it will pretty much look like the interior is always armor all'd. And I think the gloss black will look better than you think. I should have a few pieces done tomorrow, so I can send you some pics if you want.

I knew I should have been more clear.

That's where you can get the vinyl spray dye. It comes in a spray can, so I guess it really isn't dye, but it can be used on carpet, so it kind of is a dye, or something like that.

I found that stuff at one of the local auto body supply shops, for about $5 less a can than that site. I plan on just cleaning the pieces really good, then painting them. No sanding or anything, so it will have the original texture. Hope this helps.

I am going to test this on my hatch pieces tomorrow, since I don't need them with my system. I will let you know how it goes.

Yup, I am getting mine at leatherseats.com. Just a little over $700 for everything. I am getting black seats, with the bone color as the second color, pretty much like the picture on their home page.

I just put the first coat on a piece I have, so I will probably take some pics later, even though I don't have a clar coat yet, but it does look extremely nice so far. Way better than the dark grey/graphite look.

hey, 5H9DOW, don't know if you are one of the people that emailed me, but I won't have the pics up till the morning. I will have a comparison with the stock door panel, and the new one. There is a huge difference, I am really happy with how it looks so far. Shoot me an email if you're interested, so I can just reply with the pics

I did this a long time ago, taking the time to do the prep work makes all the difference. 1 year and it looks just as good as day 1, no wear whatsoever.

I did what your looking to do in my convertible. I got the leather from www.leatherseats.com (I was the 1st to do it ). Then I dyed my carpet black and panels. I used the plasti-cote vinyl paint (it sucks) so I moved to the plasti-cote flexible bumper and trim paint (works much better) but I still have to touch of the interior from time to time. I dyed the carpet using Plasti-cote fabric dye, i'm always having to touch up high wear areas. I got the door panels professionally dyed and they are lasting really well but high wear areas like the insides of the handles and down near where my feet kick it sometimes need to be touched up alittle. Here are some pics in the links:

here are pictures i took during the conversion

oh yea one of the biggest pains was finding ebony seatbelts b/c chevy doesn't make black ones and ebony is the darkest you can get. Really sucked bc I have a vert and there aren't extrea vert seatbelts out there.
