The "Before Paint" Pictures
The "Before Paint" Pictures
I'm just really excited to have all the pieces of the puzzle put together right now, so I figured I'd show off the "Before" pictures. She's going in for paint Thursday, should have her back next Thursday in time for the Woodward Dream Cruise (World's largest one day celebration of automobiles). I'm going to have them paint it red with black stripes... the stripes will be half on the scoop and half on the hood, kinda like 30th anniversary stripes on the SS hood. I'm pretty damn excited.

Re: The "Before Paint" Pictures
Reproduction, it actually fits decently for the huge price difference. The body shop I was going to said GM wanted like $300 for a new bumper, reproduction off of ebay was $106 shipped to my door. Only place that it's off is where it meets with the fender. While it's not noticeable in pictures or to really anyone except myself, I know it's there so I see it everytime lol. It just sticks out about a 16th of an inch past the side fenders. I'm pretty happy with the fitment of the fender though, for the $200 cheaper price!
All the things I did to prepare the car to get painted:
1. Installed new bumper - stock bumper was spiderweb cracked to hell, all over. I sanded it down multiple times on my own, all the way through the paint, then would rattle can it to a decent quality finish, but it was never back to normal.
2. !molding mod, what a bitch that is to get the tape off from the body... goo-be-gone and plenty of rubbing later, finally got it off.
3. Installed rear ground effect pice, finally have a full kit! I've been driving around with 3/4ths of a kit for a few months now. The vizage kit really spices it up, I couldn't stand the stock "RS" piece I had, it was just a strip of plastic to make it look lower... no style.
4. Spoiler, Freedom Designs Brickyard Spoiler, woot!
5. Fixed some buldges in the ground effects that were already installed

Re: The "Before Paint" Pictures
looks like its gonna be sharp when its back in color, enjoy the wait.. i was just lookin at mine yesterday after it came out of the paint booth like.. "can i have it now?!" lol in fact.. im still waiting... but thats cause they wanted the clear to cure really well and cut it back and buff it before i took it out... wasnt it you that suggested viper red to me? if so.. and you're still gettin teh same color... it looks GREAT very nice color, esp bein offset by the black
Re: The "Before Paint" Pictures
Sweet, I'm still debating on whether it's going to be the whole car or just the mismatch pieces. If it's the whole car, I'm definitely doing Viper Red.
Re: The "Before Paint" Pictures
honestly yould be a LOT better off to go ahead and do the whole car.. as many parts as youve got to get painted, i doubt any painter would charge a WHOLE lot more for the rest of the car
it takes more time to tape off the parts that dont need painted lol. and matching the red thats already on the car... good luck with that too, its nearly impossible. even when i had my hood and front bumper re-done i could tell teh difference, if nothing else just where it was shinier. but i dunno some shops are wierd about prices and will just jack it up a rediculous amount on you because a whole car sounds like more... either way its gonna look nice when you get it done.. and viper red.. omg is all i have to say
and i still havent seen it out in the sunlight yet
gotta spray the turn signals tomorrow though, finally got my hands on some nightshades
9.82 for a can... so worth it though lol
edit: scratch that thing about it not bein much more, i was thinkin of a car my grandfather had just done that ha an entire side and front end wiped out, and he charged the same to re-do the entire car cause they didnt have the paint code for the color that it had been re-done to anyway... but still red is hard to match =/

Re: The "Before Paint" Pictures
No offense or anything, i think it will look good afterwards, but that just looks ricey as hell for just having a 3.4L in there.
Maybe its just me, but instead of throwing all my money into making a 3.4L camaro look good, id probaly be saving up to buy a Z28 or Trans Am instead. I dont know, just seems like a waste of money to me.
I mean with all the money you have spent on the outside, dont you think you could have saved up and dropped an LT1 in it or something. Not trying to start anything, just giving you my opinion.
I do think it will look good though, i love that spoiler.

Re: The "Before Paint" Pictures
Simple answer: I do car shows, not drag nights. My car's meant to look good parked, not to race.
I understand some people are more speed oriented, and that's cool too, but everyone I know that pours money into the engine is always missing the cruises or the car shows or late to events because their car is broke down on the side of the road. My 3.4L hasn't broken down once yet.
That aside, I can't afford the insurance on the V8 at the moment, and it was basically either buy a Z28 and barely be able to afford the insurance, let alone any mods, or buy a 6 and be able to have money on the side to do mods and still have a social life and afford gas and all that. But, when the time comes, when I have a steady full time job, and when I'm making decent wages, then I do (very seriously) intend to drop a 383 stroker in there.
As for the paint job, definitely would love to do the whole car if I could. Unfortunately, the whole car would cost about 3300 compared to 1400 for the pieces. Being that I have a month left at my job (Damn KMart for moving headquarters to Chicago) I can't afford the whole car repainted.
Trust me though, I wish I could.
