autometer gauge cluster
how hard would it be to replace the stock gauge cluster(speedometer, tach, fuel, oil pres, water temp) with autometer gauges?
has anyone done this
do you have pics
has anyone done this
do you have pics
In a 4th Gen Camaro...No I haven't done it, and no I don't have pics...
But, It wouldn't be that hard...money is the main concern I would have. Gauge upgrades are something I do only when deemed necessary.
It would take quite a bit of custom fabrication probably,
then again it all could fall right into place (doubtful).
What it boils down to is this...
The gauges themselves just need something they can mount to...best looking pieces I have saw are either a sheet of Stainless Steel, or Aluminum...If you find out what sizes of all the gauges you need that will fit in the stock opening, you would be pretty well set. Also be sure there is clearance enough behind them to fit...
•Take a piece of the metal of your choice and cut it to fit the opening in the dash (probably using the stock cluster as a template.)
•Then cut in it the holes for your gauges to go in - considering that you want the gauges to be mounted 90º to your view (they won't just be perfectly round holes.)
•Mount the gagues...get a wiring harness for them (Jegs, Summit, many other places sells them...made by Painless I believe...)
•Splice all the wiring in, and you should be set to go.
That's just a simple breakdown, but that really should be about it...I think it would look dang good, but I haven't seen it done - YET...
