Anyone put a Firebird dash in a Camaro?
Anyone put a Firebird dash in a Camaro?
I cracked the top of my dash carrying lumber in my car. Yah ... my El Camaro.
Anyway .. I have a 1994 Formula parts car that has a perfect dash, and I like
it better then the Camaro one, anyone done this swap? It is possible? Is the
structure underneath the same between the two cars? Am I asking too many
questions in this post?

Sorry, I didnt take pictures, though I could post some of the aftermath. I was
carrying a 12 foot long 4 x 12 header, with a 8 foot 4 x 6 on top, between the
dash, and the rear axle hump. I had made it about 80% of the way home, &
hit a dip in the road. The force of the up and down was enough to crack the
dash dead center. This isnt the first lumber I had carried in it. Did you also
know that the HOOD for a Camaro (dont know about the Firebird) will fit in the
back of the Camaro with the seat down, and with the driver side spare plastic
cover removed? You place it right side up, rear corners turned to the drivers
side 90 degrees, so the latch is toward the passenger rear wheel. The next
time you see a Ram Air hood advertised, but you cant line up a truck to get it
home ... carry it yourself!
Back to the dash .. anyone?

Cool!
Whats involved in swaping in the Firebird dash?? Is it just the outer panels,
or is this more involved then that? I have the complete dash, but the center
console was damaged in the accident. I like the Firebird dash a LOT more.
Thanks!

Basically its just a bolt in swap. You will need the gauge cluster plug in off the Bird and you'll have to rewire the plug. You'll have to take the wires out of the plastic Firebird plug and put the Camaro wires into the plug in the proper location. The wiring diagram can be found on here if you search my name. You'll also need to rewire the defroster plug and if you're lucky maybe someone has the diagram for that. There use to be a "how to guide" on the net but its not working anymore. If you have a parts car with the dash you should be golden and have everything you need to do. It'll take some time but it'll pay off.
OK cool. Yes .. I have a complete 1994 Firebird that was hit on the pass side
we bought for the engine/trans. The dash was "untouched" except for the
original owner swiped the stereo. This sounds promising. Thanks!

Note the wiring diagram is the same as 97 Camaros. So you'll find the diagram listed for a 97 Camaro dash swap but it'll work for your Bird dash.
I've carried a 98 hood in my 94 firebird...actually the same way it fits on the car...except reverse...not sideways...and that was with a passanger!
I'll tell you though...i don't usually drive that close to the window :P
