Anyone ever made their own door sill plates?
Has anyone ever made their own door sill plates?
I was walking through a local hardware/home supply store, and saw 3' by 3' thin sheets of metal. They had stainless steel in flat, diamond plate, and leather grained patterned.
In my head I could see how this could be used to replace the stock sill. Originally I thought one might have to hammer the stock "stepped" shape into the sill, but as I think about it more, I don't think you'd even have to do that, I think a single piece 36" by 5" laid flat along the sill area might serve for a fine replacement.
I think the only problem in cutting the sheet up. Tin snips would probably curl the edge, but a fast metal band or jig saw setup should cut quick enough to leave an edge that would require minimal buffing. One could cut the piece to size, and even round the corners if desired perhaps.
Has anyone ever tried this?

I did not make a pair. But I do have a set of these from fast toys. I like them much better than the stock pieces. http://fasttoys.net/shop/product_inf...products_id=53

Yeah, to get a nice clean edge you would have to hvae someone cut them on a sheer. And to get them bent like the ones in the above link, you would have to have them bent on a brake. If you want to do it without the bend, you can most likely hvae a local machine shop sheer them to size for you for a few dollars.
