Any pics of LEDs in DRLs?
Any pics of LEDs in DRLs?
I'm going to do homemade DRLs soon (I have a 95) and was thinking of using LEDs like these (but probably not blue) because I don't want to melt my clear corners (I have regular, not diamond). Has anyone done that or got any pics?
This isn't exactly what you're talking about, but I just went two radioshack and bought to little blue LED's and hooked them up so they could be seen at night. They aren't bright enough for the daytime. When I have my headlights on, and the parking lights go on, you can see the mix of the blue and orange light. Looks pretty cool. Here's a picture of the blue www.vorliant.com/black95z28/blue.bmp

Your turn signals are "dual filiment" bulbs
Those LED's are not.
So with those LED's you could have:
a) flashers (but not DRL's)
b) DRL's (but no turn signals) illegal
but not all of the above.
FYI, I have 27w / 7w bulbs in my clear corners and no problems.

Thanks for the replies guys, dang, I guess I could try the regular hyperwhites and hope for the best (i.e. my clears don't melt).
But I do like the blue in that pic.
pu12en12g did you mean 27/7? I've heard of 27/8 but not 37/7.

Crap, I just bought some 12-LED 3157 bulbs for my front turn signals (Just installed diamond clear corners). Am I gonna have the same problem cuz it's not dual filament?
Bought them to replace the APC hyperwhite bulbs that burned out after 1 day.

Yup I meant 27w/7w
I tried this same route... I bought the LED's from http://www.superbrightleds.com/ . They are really nice bulbs, they are dual brightness and when looking directly at them, they are bright as hell! The problem is that LED's have a narrow viewing angle. When you put the bubls in, the LED's are facing down towards the ground and doesn't reflect much light, so they look dim compared to a normal bulb. You're also going to need to go buy a electronic flasher relay (available from any parts store) to replace the thermal one you have now. I ended up taking the LED bulbs out of the clear corners (diamond clears) and putting in PIAA 3157 hyperwhite bulbs and have been extremely happy with them. I had the same issues with the APC bulbs, the problem with them is that the glass is too thin and is very susceptable to temperature changes and moisture, they crack and blow out easily. You'll be very happy with the PIAA's if you can find them. I got mine online, I'll see if I can track down that URL.
