Another wheels question - pls hear me out...
Weld Prostar XP/Centerline Billet Thruster wheel ???
Hey guys and gals,
Yeah, it's been awhile..... I've been on a bit of a hiatus due to an unfortunate "off-road" incident with my car. My plans are to repaint the car in stock Medium Patriot Red metallic with the possibility of white racing stripes. In addition, I'm going to install a Warbird Outlaw hood and some lowering springs that provide a 1-1.5" drop.
I would also like to get rims for it, but I don't want to go to a plus wheel size (bigger than 16s). Plus, it seems there's a lot of people out there with the variants of what SLP offers (SS/ZR1/Z06/Firehawk, etc.) - don't get me wrong, I like them but I want something different yet not too wild. I'm looking at either the Weld Pro-Star XPs or the Centerline Billet Thrusters (split 7-spoke).
The problems I can see with this is to do with backspacing. The Welds in 16x8 have only 4.5" and 5.5" with 16x8.5. By my calculations, this means those wheels would stick out at least approx. 1.25" more than stock. The Centerline 16x8s are available with up to 5.5" backspacing; stock is 6.75" right? I wouldn't mind at all if the wheels stuck out about 1" farther than stock, but I think anything more would be too much and the tires would rub, wouldn't they?
So, does anyone have any input as to what will fit, and even better, does anyone have pics of either of these wheels on their car? TIA

Ok,i have 18" wheels but the fronts are 18x8 with a 5.5" backspacing, they're Centerlines billet "Spear" and they don't stick out or rub at all, actually looks good cause it sticks out further then stock but not past the fender,my car is also lowered an 1.5".
So you shouldn't have any problems as long you get at least a 5.5" backspacing an a 8" wheel!!! Hope this helps, check out my sig for pics so you can see for yourself!!!!

Thanks for the input whiteheartbeat
That's about how I'd like the wheels to sit in the fenderwells. However, by my calculations, your front tires are about 6/10ths of an inch shorter than stock; I wonder if that would make any difference in causing the tire to rub.....hmmm.....
Does anyone have the Pro-Star XPs in 16x8 or 16x8.5?
