Anodized my valve covers.

A while back i stripped and polished my stock valve covers. They looked sweet, but then i got the idea of adding some colour, and thought i would give some of that anodized paint a try. All i can say is WOW, it looks so sweet. Its like a dark red metalic, with a bit of marble look to it. I cant really explain it, but it looks sweet and should add some colour to my engine bay.

The pics arent very good, i will get some more once they are on the car, but these should do the trick. Looks good for $5 eh?

Let me know what you think.

Wow man, that looks GREAT!

You should go into business. If this only costed $5 in materials, you could make some huge profits!

muahahahaha i am not telling

Jokes

I just sanded the paint off the valve covers by hand, and worked it until i was at 400 grit. I then polished it with a polishing wheel on my grinder, and some compound. They shined pretty good. And the other day i was in the local parts store and was looking at paint for some odd reason. I have heard about this anodized paint before, but never knew what it would look like. It was like $4.99 for the can, so i thought it was worth a try.

I took the shine off my covers with some 400 grit paper, washed paint thinner to get any residue off, and then washed with hand soap in the kitchen sink. Blew it dry with the compressor and painted it. 3 coats of the red anodized, and 3 coats of clear ( no clears in that picture, the clear made it look deeper )

If you want to get down to the price, it probably cost more like $15 canadian, but since i already had the materials for polishing and sanding, and a can of clear coat, i said $5, which is what the paint cost.

It looks pretty good.

I'm wondering how long the finish will last with no kind of primer on a smooth polished surface.

I was wondering the same, but it is high heat, says right on the can ideal for valve covers. Idealy this is supposed to be applied over chrome, it needs to be on a shiney surface to get the effect. If it doesnt hold up, its only 4.99 and a few minutes of work to paint it again

Oh yeah, it is the duplicolour stuff.

I used the same paint on my calipers. It really matched the color of my car well. I'm very happy with that paint. I was going to polish my valve covers and intake.... but I think I might rethink that now.

That would be cool if it holds up then.
