Angry Am I The Only One?

To have a 97 that doesn't have the digital odometer. I can not find one place that sells gauge overlays/reverse indiglo for a 97 that has the analog odometer. Anyone else find them?

Give in

Spend $51 on a 98 gauge cluster..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2437763109

That ends in about 9 hours from this post, but you can always find another one..

Then spend $27 on a set of reverse glo gauges..

Or get some custom made with graphix that go with your setup..
Screw main stream..

I wish the late 97+ cluster was the same "size" as the 93-97.. I'd love a 98+ gauge cluster with the digital goodies.. Damn GM for being slow on the up and up.. I wish my gauges would do self tests as well.

Well,i'm not sure, but i think that since mine is an analog odo, that a digital 98 cluster would not work. There has to be some sort of relays/sensors or something to make the digital odo work.

Umm..

The rollover odometer in my 94Z is run via a small electric motor in the gauge cluster that get's the same "digital" signal that the speedo does..
So... When the speedo gets 140MPH, it says 140MPH, and since the odo is getting the same 140MPH signal, it's advancing the odometer at the rate of 140MPH...

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that the different clusters are interchangable.. It's all "electrical/digital" signals that go into the cluster.. No mechanical cables. Just wires..

There's someone that has taken a 95' or so Z28's cluster and stuck it in a 95 Caprice. A couple light's didnt work because of missing features, but it did work in the end.. And the 95' Caprice has a "Digtal Odometer" to begin with..

Anyone in here that has done this conversion?? Anyone??

The only thinkg I'm not sure about is the connection..

In my 94Z it's connected to a cord that plugs into the side of the cluster. In my bro's 95 Caprice the cluster just plugs into the dash (you can pull it straight out)..

Again.. don't quote me..

i bought a 2000 digital Z cluster to replace my '97 roller odometer and it didnt work. As soon as you plug it in, there is a clicking noise and the bright light indicator starts blinking and all sorts of weird things. Come to find out, the 2000-2002 clusters are different than the 97 models. I dont know if 98 is the same as 97 or not. I'm gonna try and fine mself a '97 digital cluster soon.

I would like to know what happens when you do the change out. The only thing that i am concerned about is finding someone to set the digital odo to match my analog one. Think that i may call the local junkyard tomorrow and see if i can find a 97 cluster with the digital odo. If i find out anything i'll post the results.

If thats true, my speedo is about 4mph faster than what im acctually going, due to different tires. Would that mean that my odometer would be higher than the acctual miles i have on the car?

A 97 digital will work in just fine for the most part. Not sure if you will have the same problems I do as your car is a 97, but my seat belt light stays on (it actuly dims a bit but not enoght to shut it off, and the TCS light stays on) Other than that it works just fine in my 94.
