ahhh 10 years and showing it...

So I'm under my car in the garage doing the prep work to drop the motor and I started looking around and noticed a lot of surface rust all over the bottom. Kind of really sad and disappointed to see it going like this. Looking closely, GM never really welded everything through or even caulked all the seams (yes I know, money) but it would be a lot nicer.

I'm curious if anyone has put some of the brush on bedliner on the bottom of the car? I'm thinking of using a wire brush to get the surface rust off, little por15 and then a brush on bed liner so I don't have to worry about spraying anything like undercoating. Any thoughts?

It's not that uncommon. My mom has a 2003 Audi A4 and it is already starting to rust in places under the car. All the salt and **** in the winter really does a toll on cars here in WI. My Camaro isnt all that great either, but the previous owner stored it in the winter, however I drive mine all year around now (not fun in the snow). So it has gotten alot worse over the past 2 years.

Re: ahhh 10 years and showing it...

My '02 was winter driven the first 2 years, and it's got a few rust spots here and there on the frame (but I had the car undercoated at the dealership, so most of the undercarriage is pretty well protected? ).

Kind of gonna be sad to start watching 4th-gens rust and rot away the same as 3rd, 2nd, and 1st-gens have been.

driven first 6 winters, last four not. Interestingly, those are KBDD SFC's with their "zinc" coating, they're about 5 years old. Interestingly, my Torque arm also has rust even though it's powder coated (didn't post a pic of that)

Gee, you are having quite a bit of rust . We've had our Z28 since early 1996 and it isn't having any (or many) rust problems underneath. Only a small part on the tip of the hood and a weld under the hatch when you open the back up have rust. I don't believe there is any under the car though. Well, except the iron block of the LT1, of course that is solid brown.

Re: ahhh 10 years and showing it...

im trying to find something with 4wd for the winter so I can park the SS, it was up on the lift saturday, and the guys at Harris Speed Works even commented it was the cleanest undercarriage they have ever seen. It's never seen snow before and lived its life in a garage until I bought her, so I need to find a way to keep up the tradition and park her.

Re: ahhh 10 years and showing it...

Not only is the salt bad on the car but driving in the snow/ice is VERY dangerous (to the car and you) with rwd. I got my Camaro New Years eve 04 and it was only 1 month after I had gotten my liscense. It's an easy way to find out how good of a driver you are, realy fast...I almost got killed 3 times that first winter, sliding through intersections, almost sliding into ditches, and stuff like that. I'm more concerned about the car not getting totaled then I am about some rust underneath, haha.
