Accidentally did something cool with my brake calipers
while trying to paint them. It's pretty neat how you can sometimes do something completely awesome that you didn't even plan on doing.
I decided I wanted to paint my brake calipers this week... They looked all grime covered and rust colored, and I had planned on dressing them up from the start. Since my car hasn't been driving (waiting on race built 4L60) very much, I figured now is the time.

First I bought blue, since the accents I'm using on my car are blue and silver. I had bought white caliper vinyl decals from Brent 6 months ago, so I was going to use them. I bought the Duplicolor brush on kit.

Then I had second thoughts because the blue was a little too dark. I would have liked a lot lighter color blue. So then decided I wanted to paint the calipers just plain silver instead. So the next day, I went and bought that Duplicolor kit and went back out this morning to paint em over. But I had a bright idea and thought it would look cool if I put on the vinyl, painted the caliper in silver and yanked the vinyl off.
I'd have silver calipers and blue CAMARO script. Word.
So I rigged up some thread underneath the vinyl (to aid in pulling it off) and slapped em on. (Please pay no attention to the surface rust on the rotors - it rained the other day). And yes, I was sloppy and got the pads with paint a little bit.

So I threw on a coat... And the damn blue paint started bleeding into the silver.
WTF... I had painted them 24 hours prior and they were totally dry to the touch yesterday. So I decided to pull the vinyl off, and the whole thing turned into a train wreck. Gooey paint everywhere and some screwed up lettering.

Re: Accidentally did something cool with my brake calipers
Nothing else I could do but keep trying to put on coats until the silver started to take. But then, something awesome started happening. The paint was mixing into an awesome pearlescent blue-silver color.
I went with it and just kept it going until it was blended really nice and evenly.

The pictures actually don't do the hue of this paint any justice! It looks friggin awesome.
I guess God knew what color I really wanted... This is better than the color I would have used if I would have picked out a spray paint. I need to try to get some pictures of it in direct sunlight so hopefully it translates.

Re: Accidentally did something cool with my brake calipers
You should have installed an LS1 brake kit while you were down there. You can get them for cheap nowadays.
Anyway, I think your calipers came out looking good. Very unique to say the least

And thanks

Thanks guys!
Yeah the oil pressure sending unit leaks, it's a very slow leak though. Next oil change I'm going to swap it out. What you see there in the pan is about 2 months worth of accumulation, plus quite a bit of rain water that found it's way in the other day.
Yeah, spoke too soon didn't ya!

If I ever buy another f-bod, it's gonna have a set of those on it.
i saw a Boxster S with Torque Thrusts on it just the other day. At first I thought I was dreaming it so I smacked myself in the head, re-adjusted my eyes and sure enough! I love those rims but so god awful on a Boxster! It would be like me putting a WS6 hood on my S2000

Color turned out great btw! I'm not a huge fan of painted calipers (at least anything other than red) but your's look nice!

Especially if you see it in person. For some reason my camera dulled the effect out a bit.
